7.1 Humor in the company
The beginning of the 21st century is marked by globalization, natural disasters, terror, demographic change, economic slumps and insolvencies. Humor seems to be in the wrong place. But especially in difficult times, humor is a true elixir of life. More and more entrepreneurs, managers and trainers are dealing with this topic.
A humorous corporate culture should strengthen the motivation and loyalty of employees, show customers a friendly, customer-oriented company and thus demonstrate customer friendliness, which in turn leads to economic success. In his book, Holtbernd lists ten hard facts for humor in the company (Fig. 6). Holtbernd assumes that the generational change in the management levels has an impact on the handling of humor in the company. Likewise, humor can facilitate interaction between different cultural and religious groups. The increased proportion of women in leadership positions will change the nature of jokes and humor as women demonstrate a greater need for harmony. The transition to flat hierarchies also influences the handling of humor and jokes, so executives also openly become the target of ridicule and jokes. Holtbernd starts from the assumption that the joke has also experienced a change in Germany and can be more helpful in these times than a catalyst in stressful situations. The results of humor research, although not one hundred percent verifiable, make an important point in this collection. Positive attitudes and more courage to change can have a positive impact on both employees and the company itself in these times of higher flexibility requirements. Emotions can be better channeled, conflicts can be better managed. Customer loyalty and entrepreneurial profit can be positive consequences of a humor culture in companies.

2 The situation in the care of the elderly and the sick: Outlines the growing staff shortages, high workload, and the resulting psychological and physical stress experienced by nursing staff.
3 Motivation: Explores various motivation theories, including Maslow’s hierarchy and the Rubicon model, to understand what drives human behavior in professional environments.
4 Motivation and emotion: Discusses the psychophysiological connection between emotional states and the readiness to act, emphasizing that effective management requires emotional competence.
5 Humor and laughter: Defines the facets of humor, its physiological and communicative functions, and explores the concept of salutogenesis in the context of maintaining health.
6 The role of the leader: Examines different leadership concepts, from authoritarian to systemic approaches, and identifies the core skills required for modern, emotionally intelligent leadership.
7 Leadership style and humor: Investigates the practical application of humor as a tool for team-building, conflict resolution, and long-term organizational success in the healthcare industry.
8 Conclusion and outlook: Synthesizes the findings and argues that a dosed, sensitive use of humor can significantly increase employee satisfaction and care quality.

The work focuses on the effects of a humorous leadership style on the motivation of nursing staff and the improvement of care quality in the healthcare sector.
The core themes include motivation theories, the psychology of emotions, the role of leadership in organizations, and the strategic application of humor to cope with workplace stress.
The goal is to determine if a serious yet humorous approach to leadership can positively influence employee emotions and counteract inner resignation or burnout in challenging work environments.
The work is based on an extensive literature review, integrating psychological theories, leadership research, and empirical studies on humor in professional settings.
It covers the definition of motivation and emotion, the evolution of leadership styles, the function of humor in hierarchies, and the practical implementation of humor concepts.
Key terms include motivation, leadership style, nursing, salutogenesis, humor culture, and conflict management.
Humor facilitates positive relationship building, helps in relativizing competitive situations, and fosters a sense of togetherness that distinguishes teams from others.
Risks include the potential for misunderstanding, particularly in high-stress situations, or the perception of humor as destructive (e.g., sarcasm/cynicism), which can trigger feelings of inferiority if not applied with empathy.
Implementation should be a planned, transparent project that involves staff, respects individual humor styles, and focuses on "dosed" humorous interventions that prioritize the well-being of the patients.
