This study aims to investigate the influence of public awareness campaigns on the prevalence of obstetric fistula in Nigeria, specifically focusing on residents of Suleja, Niger State. The primary research goal is to evaluate if these media-driven health initiatives effectively educate the populace and foster behavior changes to mitigate the incidence of obstetric fistula.
Psycho-Social Consequences of Obstetric Fistula on its Victim
Obstetric fistula has a more devastating social and psychological impact on the survivor than HIV/AIDS. The vast majority of victims cannot afford the expensive therapy they require, which worsens their physical, social, and emotional health. Because of their inability to control their urination and defecation, women who have had an obstetric fistula often end up smelling like they have been peed on and scratched with razors (i.e. injury to the surface of the skin or mucous membrane caused by physical abrasion, such as scratching). Obstetric fistula is associated with a small vagina due to vaginal anatomy, secondary amenorrhea, the potential inability to carry a child in the future despite successful repair, and a low infant survival rate.
CHAPTER ONE: Provides the foundational background, problem statement, and objectives regarding the urgent health challenge of obstetric fistula in Nigeria.
CHAPTER TWO: Reviews pertinent literature and outlines the Attitude-Change theoretical framework used to analyze health communication strategies.
CHAPTER THREE: Details the research methodology, incorporating a survey approach to gather data from the target population in Suleja.
CHAPTER FOUR: Presents the statistical analysis of gathered data, offering insights into respondent demographics and their exposure to health campaigns.
CHAPTER FIVE: Summarizes the study's conclusions and offers evidence-based recommendations for improving future obstetric fistula awareness initiatives.

The research evaluates the efficacy of mass media campaigns in informing the public about obstetric fistula and reducing its prevalence in Nigeria.
The study covers the physical and socio-cultural causes of fistula, the role of media in health promotion, and the psychological impact on survivors.
The study seeks to determine the influence of mass media campaigns on the level of knowledge and behavioral adjustments regarding obstetric fistula among the Nigerian population.
The researcher adopted a survey method, utilizing questionnaires to collect empirical data from a representative sample of 380 respondents in Suleja.
The main part of the work analyzes the current awareness levels, major sources of health information, and the connection between media exposure and the adoption of preventive health practices.
The work is defined by terms such as obstetric fistula, maternal health, media campaigns, and public awareness in the context of the Nigerian healthcare landscape.
This theory provides the foundation for understanding how, through intellectually and emotionally binding techniques, public perception and health behaviors can be effectively transitioned.
The text highlights that even after successful repair, victims face social stigmas, potential infertility, and severe psychological distress, complicating the path to full recovery.
