Wohl kaum ein Tag vergeht mehr, an dem Jugendliche nicht mit ihrem Smartphone beschäftigt sind. Denn mit diesem ist es möglich, zwischendurch und unterwegs zu kommunizieren: Ob in der Bahn, unter Freunden-/innen oder auf Reisen. Es ist wohl unumstritten das wichtigste Mediengerät unserer Zeit - und übt insbesondere unter Jugendlichen eine große Faszination aus (vgl. Wagner, Brüggen 2013, S. 3).
Die Ergebnisse der vom Medienpädagogischen Forschungsverbund Südwest1 durchgeführten „Jugend, Informationen, Medien2 “-Studien der vergangenen Jahre offerieren: Medien spielen für die Jugend von heute eine zentrale Rolle. Bereits seit mehreren Jahren sind Smartphones auf Platz eins der wichtigsten Mediengeräte. Es verwundert also nicht, dass im vergangenen Jahr 93% der Jugendlichen in Deutschland angaben, ein eigenes Smartphone zu besitzen (vgl. Feierabend et al. 2019, S. 7).
Und mit diesem können sie ihrer liebsten Beschäftigung nachgehen: Sich mithilfe vielfältiger Dienste und Funktionen virtuell mit ihren Freundinnen und Freunden austauschen (vgl. Autenrieth, Neumann-Braun 2016, S. 341) - und zwar ortsungebunden und jederzeit. Soziale Medien ermöglichen ihnen nicht nur die Vernetzung untereinander, sondern bieten ihnen auch Möglichkeiten der Selbstdarstellung, um soziale Beziehungen gestalten zu können (vgl. Wagner, Brüggen 2013, S. 3).
Besonders beliebt unter Jugendlichen ist die Kommunikation mittels der sozialen Online-Netzwerke WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram und Snapchat. In dieser Forschungsarbeit wird es um Instagram3 gehen, denn bei jenem steht das sogenannte „Posten“, also das Hochladen von Fotos-/Videos oder Stories4 im Vordergrund. Mit dem eigenen Profil ist es den Nutzenden möglich, Bild- und Videomaterial hochzuladen, Stories zu teilen sowie die Inhalte anderer zu „liken5 “ und zu kommentieren. Damit handelt es sich bei Instagram um ein soziales Netzwerk, das insbesondere zur Selbstinszenierung von jungen Heranwachsenden zwischen 14 und 17 Jahren genutzt wird (vgl. Feierabend et al. 2018, S. 39). In der Instagram-Studie „Insta ungeschminkt - Der Traum von Unverwundbarkeit" wurde das Verhältnis von Jugendlichen zu Instagram untersucht (vgl. Imdahl, Huber 2019, S. 1). Es kam heraus, dass viele von ihnen dort aktiv sind, um sich eine rundum kontrollierbare, „perfekte Traumwelt" zu schaffen, in der sie selbst unangreifbar sind (vgl. ebd., S. 2).
Doch die Nutzung birgt auch Risiken und Gefahren und kann ihre Identitätsbildung beeinflussen - etwa, wenn keine Anschlusskommunikation in Form von „Likes“ oder Kommentaren eines geposteten Bildes seitens der Peergroup6 erfolgt. Hat ein gepostetes Foto und/oder Video nicht genügend „Likes“ bekommen, wird es von vielen Jugendlichen als fehlgeschlagener Kommunikationsakt gewertet (vgl. Autenrieth 2014, S. 53). Solch 'schlechtes' Feedback ist direkt von der Peergroup und anderen einsehbar und kann sich negativ auf das (noch) nicht ausgeprägte Selbstwertgefühl auswirken (vgl. ebd., S. 57).
Nun stellen sich die Fragen, welche Beweggründe Jugendliche dazu veranlassen, sich selbst in sozialen Medien darzustellen? Hat die Selbstdarstellung einen Einfluss auf die Identitätsbildung? Wie nehmen Jugendliche ihr eigenes Online-Verhalten wahr? Und zu guter Letzt: Welche medienpädagogischen Maßnahmen können ergriffen werden, um negativen Erfahrungen vorzubeugen und die Jugendlichen zum selbstreflektierten Umgang zu erziehen? Anhand qualitativer Interviews, die mit Jugendlichen zwischen 14 und 16 Jahren durchgeführt worden sind, soll untersucht werden, welchen Einfluss die Selbstdarstellung in sozialen Online-Netzwerken auf den Identitätsbildungsprozess von Jugendlichen hat. Demzufolge lautet der Titel dieser Masterarbeit:
„Sehen und gesehen werden. Eine empirische Untersuchung über die Bedeutung der Selbstdarstellung in sozialen Netzwerken für die Identitätsbildung."
Die Arbeit gliedert sich in 7 Kapitel, wobei das Folgende die wichtigen theoretischen Grundlagen für das weitere Verständnis liefert. Zunächst werden Sozialisations- sowie Identitätsbildungsprozesse (Kap. 2), mit einem besonderen Augenmerk auf die Phase der Jugend, beschrieben. Daran schließt sich das dritte Kapitel Jugend und Medien an. Der nächste Teil wird sich der Methodik widmen und die Thematik Methodik der Untersuchung abhandeln (Kap. 4). Im Anschluss erfolgt die Auswertung der Ergebnisse (Kap. 5). Darauffolgend wird versucht, den in 3.3 beschriebenen Gefahren und Risiken mit entsprechenden Medienpädagogischen Handlungsempfehlungen zu begegnen (Kap. 6). Die Arbeit schließt mit einem Resümee und Ausblick ab (Kap. 7).
Da in diesem Forschungsvorhaben untersucht werden soll, ob und welchen Einfluss die Selbstdarstellung im sozialen Netzwerk Instagram auf die Identität haben kann, bedarf es zunächst einmal der Klärung relevanter Begrifflichkeiten, weshalb sich das nun folgende Kapitel mit relevanten Theorien zur Sozialisation und Identitätsbildung beschäftigen wird. Der erste Teil dieses Kapitels „Sozialisation: Eine Heranführung“ (2.1) dient der Heranführung an diese komplexe Thematik. Hieran anknüpfend wird die Sozialisationstheorie nach Klaus Hurrelmann (2.1.1) beschrieben. Im Anschluss wird auf die Bedeutung von Peergroups (2.1.2) eingegangen, welche eine wichtige Sozialisationsinstanz im Leben eines Jugendlichen darstellen. Da die Phase der Jugend besonders prägend im Sozialisationsprozess ist, bedarf es zum weiteren Verständnis dieses Forschungsvorhabens einer prägnanten Beschreibung dieser Phase. Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass der Fokus dieser Arbeit auf die Identität bzw. den Einfluss der Selbstdarstellung auf den Identitätsbildungsprozess gelegt wurde, werden diese Aspekte in 2.2/2.2.1 und 3.2.3 umfangreicher betrachtet.
Hauptsächlich wird sich dieses theoretische Kapitel mit dem Sozialisationsbegriff von Klaus Hurrelmann und der Identitätstheorie von Erik H. Erikson auseinandersetzen.
Bei der Sozialisationsforschung handelt es sich um einen breiten und reichhaltigen Gegenstandsbereich, welcher in den letzten 25 Jahren eine enorme Entwicklung durchlaufen hat. Daher soll im nun folgenden Teil ein thematischer Überblick relevanter Sozialisationstheorien gegeben werden, um im Anschluss tiefgreifender auf die Sozialisationstheorie von Klaus Hurrelmann einzugehen, auf die im weiteren Verlauf dieser Arbeit im Besonderen Bezug genommen wird.
Der Begriff „Sozialisation“ als solcher wurde bereits zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts von Emile Durkheim (1858-1917), einem französischen Soziologen, ins Leben gerufen. In seiner Theorie geht er davon aus, dass der Mensch zunächst triebhaft, egoistisch und asozial sei und sich erst durch den Sozialisationsprozess der Gesellschaft anpasst und dadurch in ihr handlungsfähig wird. Die Aufrechterhaltung moderner Gesellschaften sei nur dann gewährleistet, wenn ihre Gesellschaftsmitglieder es schaffen, die Normen und Zwangsmechanismen zu verinnerlichen. In der Folge müsse die Gesellschaft in das Individuum eindringen und dessen Persönlichkeit von innen her organisieren (vgl. Hurrelmann 2006, S. 11 f.). Denn der Mensch, „[...] den die Erziehung in uns verwirklichen muss, ist nicht der Mensch, den die Natur gemacht hat, sondern der Mensch, wie ihn die Gesellschaft haben will" (Durkheim 1973, S. 44).
Für Durkheim bedeutete Sozialisation folglich die Vergesellschaftung der menschlichen Natur (vgl. Hurrelmann 2006, S. 12). Für Tillmann wirkt diese Definition in heutiger Sicht wie eine verkürzte soziologische Annahme, da jene auf die Unterwerfung des Menschen unter gesellschaftlichen Anforderungen abzielt (vgl. Tillmann 2000, S. 35).
George Herbert Mead (1863-1931) forschte zeitgleich mit Durkheim zur Rolle von Sprache und Kommunikation für die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung, welche auch bis heute eine große Bedeutung haben. In Durkheims Sinne handelt es sich bei heutigen westlichen Gesellschaften jedoch um keine Industriegesellschaften mehr, welche den Gesellschaftsmitgliedern soziale Integration durch psychisch fest implantierte Wert- und Symbolsysteme aufzwingt, da es sich bei diesen nur noch zum Teil um staatlich organisierte und überschaubare Kulturgemeinschaften handelt. Moderne Gesellschaften sind eher durch eine große Vielfalt sozialer und kultureller Lebensformen und durch eigenständige Organisationen und Systeme geprägt, welche nur mit selbständigen Persönlichkeiten funktionieren können (vgl. ebd., S. 13 f.).
Seit der sozialwissenschaftlichen Öffnung der Erziehungswissenschaft in den 60er Jahren, gewann der Sozialisationsbegriff zunehmend an Bedeutung und es entstanden zahlreiche Definitionsansätze. Aufgrund der Vielzahl theoretischer Ansätze, theoretischer Fragen und Problemstellungen ist keine präzise Bestimmung des Sozialisationsbegriffs vorhanden (vgl. Niederbacher, Zimmermann 2011, S. 11 ff.). Zwei etwas modernere Definitionsversuche, welche, konträr zu Durkheim, die „[...] Prozesse der menschlichen Subjektwerdung, die Reflexionsfähigkeit, die aktive Steuerung der Umweltaneignung [...]" (Gudjons 2012, S. 158). sowie das o.g. Bündel theoretischer Fragen und Problemstellungen berücksichtigen, lauten wie folgt:
„Sozialisation bezeichnet den Prozess der Entwicklung der Persönlichkeit in produktiver Auseinandersetzung mit den natürlichen Anlagen, insbesondere den körperlichen und psychischen Grundmerkmalen (der »inneren Realität«) und mit der sozialen physikalischen Umwelt (der »äußeren Realität«)" (Hurrelmann 2006, S. 7).
In der zweiten Definition wird der Sozialisationsprozess als „[...] ein Prozess, durch den in wechselseitiger Interpendenz zwischen der biopsychischen Grundstruktur individueller Akteure und ihrer sozialen und physischen Umwelt relativ dauerhafte Wahrnehmungs-, Bewertungs- und Handlungsdispositionen auf persönlicher ebenso wie auf kollektiver Ebene [...]" verstanden (Hurrelmann et al. 2008, S. 25).
In beiden Definitionen wird die jeweilige Perspektive, zum einen aus Sicht der Gesellschaft und zum anderen aus Sicht des Individuums, dargestellt. Aus der Perspektive des Individuums heraus ist die jeweilige Persönlichkeit durch eigenes, aktives Gestalten der sozialen und kulturellen Lebensverhältnisse, indem es innerhalb einer Gesellschaft agiert, interagiert und kommuniziert, am Sozialisationsprozess beteiligt. Zudem muss es einen erheblichen Anteil an Eigenregie bei seiner Auseinandersetzung mit der Umwelt erbringen. Aus gesellschaftlicher Perspektive gilt es zu ergründen, welchen Handlungsspielraum für Sozialisationsprozesse es gibt und wie sich diese beeinflussen lassen (vgl. Gudjons 2012, S. 159). Tillmann wiederum hebt hervor, dass es bei der Beeinflussung bzw. Prägung des Individuums „[...] um die Gesamtheit der gesellschaftlich vermittelten Umwelt in ihrer spezifischen Bedeutung für die Entwicklung der Persönlichkeit [geht]" (Tillmann 2010, S. 15).
Hierbei seien die Vielzahl der durch die Gesellschaft geschaffenen Einflussfaktoren für die Sozialisation zu beachten, denn insbesondere in urbanen Gebieten wird die auf das Individuum wirkende Umwelt fast ausschließlich durch die Gesellschaft geprägt. Nun folgend wird die Sozialisationstheorie von Klaus Hurrelmann beschrieben, da auf diese im späteren Verlauf der Arbeit, mitunter auch im Hinblick auf die Ergebnisse der qualitativen Interviews, näher eingegangen werden soll.
Im Jahre 1980 haben Hurrelmann und Geulen den Sozialisationsprozess im Handbuch der Sozialisation folgendermaßen definiert:
„Prozess der Entstehung und Entwicklung der Persönlichkeit in wechselseitiger Abhängigkeit von der gesellschaftlich vermittelten sozialen und materiellen Umwelt" (Geulen, Hurrelmann 1980, S. 51, zit. nach Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 19).
Wenige Jahre später wurde diese Theorie durch das Modell des produktiv realitätsverarbeitenden Subjekts ergänzt (vgl. Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 19).
Nach Hurrelmann wird unter dem Sozialisationsbegriff ein lebenslanger Prozess verstanden, bei dem die jeweilige genetische Veranlagung eines Menschen und die Umwelt an der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung beteiligt sind. Diesen Prozess bezeichnet Hurrelmann als produktive Realitätsverarbeitung. Bei jener wird eine aktive Tätigkeit des Menschen bei der Aneignung und Verarbeitung seiner natürlichen Anlagen und seinen sozialen und psychischen Umweltbedingungen vorausgesetzt, die das ganze Leben lang anhält. Demnach wird die Persönlichkeit des Menschen nicht durch seine Anlagen oder durch seine Umwelt definiert, sondern durch ein Wechselspiel von bei- dem (vgl. Hurrelmann 2012, S. 52).
Dabei werden die sozialen und ökologischen Gegebenheiten eines Individuums subjektiv aufgenommen, verarbeitet und wirken somit auf das Individuum ein. Gleichermaßen ist das Individuum an der Gestaltung des Prozesses beteiligt, in dem es diesen verändert (vgl. Hurrelmann et al. 2015, S. 145). In seinem Buch „Einführung in die Sozialisationstheorie“ (2006) hat Hurrelmann die Kernannahmen dieses Modells zusammengefasst und bezeichnet diese als Thesen.
In der ersten der zehn Thesen beschreibt Hurrelmann Sozialisation als ein Wechselspiel von genetischer Veranlagung und Umwelt. Dabei bestimmt die biologische Verankerung menschlicher Merkmale die jeweiligen Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten - und dies über den gesamten Lebenslauf hinweg. Die Persönlichkeit und das Verhalten eines Menschen werden nicht direkt durch die Gene beeinflusst, stellen jedoch einen Möglichkeitsraum dar, aus dem einzelne Elemente aktiviert werden. Ob und zu welchem Zeitpunkt diese zum Zuge kommen, ist stark abhängig von den gegebenen sozialen und physikalischen Umweltbedingungen. Diese Einflüsse können genetische Gegebenheiten eindämmen, überdecken, zurückhalten oder auch freilegen. „Solange die interdisziplinäre Forschung keine klaren Ergebnisse zeigt“ (Hurrelmann 2006, S. 24), kann laut Hurrelmann davon ausgegangen werden, dass die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung im Leben eines Menschen einerseits auf die genetische Veranlagung und andererseits auf die Umweltbedingungen zurückzuführen ist und diese sich in vielfältiger Art und Weise überlagern (vgl. ebd., S. 24). So kann die Veranlagung eines spezifischen Talents, wie bspw. eine musikalische Begabung, folglich nur dann zum Ausdruck kommen, wenn es auf die richtige Umwelt stößt. Auf der anderen Seite besteht die Möglichkeit, dass bei identischer genetischer Anlage, wie es bei eineiigen Zwillingen der Fall ist, unterschiedliche Phänotypen entstehen, wenn sich die soziale Umwelt beider Individuen in hohem Maße voneinander unterscheidet. Schon in sehr frühen Stadien wirkt die Umwelt somit auf die weitere Ausformung des genetischen Potenzials auf das Individuum ein. Das jeweilige genetische Potenzial entscheidet wiederum darüber, in welcher Weise die Umwelt angenommen und angeeignet wird (vgl. ebd., S. 24). Die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung eines Menschen ist folglich abhängig von seiner jeweiligen genetischen Veranlagung, den gegebenen Umweltfaktoren und ebenso vom jeweiligen Geschlecht. Männer und Frauen unterscheiden sich nach ihren Geschlechtschromosomen-, und Hormonen. Dabei unterscheiden sich nicht nur der Körperbau, der hormonelle Haushalt und das Gehirn, sondern auch die Persönlichkeit und das Verhalten voneinander. So sind bspw. das räumliche Erinnerungsvermögen und die verbalen Fähigkeiten bei weiblichen Individuen stärker und das räumliche Orientierungsvermögen bei Männern besser ausgeprägt. Hinzu kommt, dass diese Differenzen durch soziale Einflüsse und kulturelle Vorstellungen, was Männlichkeit und Weiblichkeit betrifft, geprägt sind und zu erlernten geschlechtsspezifischen Persönlichkeitsmerkmalen und Verhaltensweisen führen. Die Genetik und die Anlage der Persönlichkeitsmerkmale dienen somit als Ausgangslage und Möglichkeitsraum für die geschlechtsspezifische Entfaltung. Dabei begrenzt die genetische Anlage den Raum von sozialen und gesellschaftlichen Entfaltungsmöglichkeiten (vgl. ebd., S. 26).
Die zweite These behandelt den Aspekt der wechselseitigen Realität der inneren und äußeren Abhängigkeit. Mit der sogenannten „inneren Realität“ sind die gegebenen physischen und psychischen Grundstrukturen, wie die genetische Veranlagung, Intelligenz, körperliche Konstitution und psychisches Temperament eines Menschen gemeint. Soziale und physikalische Umweltbedingungen sind demzufolge die „äußere Realität“ und inkludieren das soziale Umfeld wie die Familie, den Freundeskreis, Massenmedien, Erziehungs- und Bildungseinrichtungen, Arbeits- und Wohnbedingungen und die materielle Umwelt. Nach Hurrelmann ist es dem Menschen weder möglich die innere (die angeborenen körperlichen und psychischen Vorgaben) als auch die äußere Realität (welche die Rahmenbedingungen für sein Handeln setzen) auszublenden. Der jeweilige Umgang mit der eigenen Anlage und Umwelt ist jedoch individuell und einmalig (vgl. Hurrelmann 2006, S. 27).
Bei der inneren und äußeren Realität im Sozialisationsprozess (dritte These) handelt es sich um eine aktive Form der Tätigkeit, auch wenn dies nicht unbedingt im Bewusstsein des Einzelnen verankert ist. Daher ist es für das Individuum wichtig, sich selbst und das eigene Handeln zu reflektieren und physische und psychische Veränderungen wahrzunehmen, um die daraus gewonnenen Erkenntnisse entsprechend auf die soziale und physikalische Umwelt zu übertragen (vgl. ebd., S. 28).
In der vierten These benennt Hurrelmann die Relevanz der angemessenen sozialen und materiellen Umwelt, welche Voraussetzung für eine gelingende Persönlichkeitsentwicklung sind. Zu den wichtigsten Sozialisationsinstanzen zählt die Familie, der Kindergarten und die Schule. Auch in dieser These geht es in erster Linie darum, dass es ein funktionierendes Zusammenspiel zwischen innerer und äußerer Realität geben sollte, damit die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung gelingen kann. Die primäre Sozialisationsinstanz ist seit Jahrhunderten die Familie, da sie gezielt auf die Art und Weise der Aneignung und Verarbeitung der Realität einwirkt und die Eltern Einfluss auf die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung der Kinder nehmen. Im Verlauf der Jahre und der Industrialisierung ist es zu einer Ergänzung weiterer Erziehungs- und Sozialisationsfunktionen in andere Institutionen wie dem Kindergarten, der Schule etc. gekommen. Wenngleich der sozialen Lebenslage eine wichtige Rolle im Sozialisationsprozess zukommt, wird die Familie in westlichen Gesellschaften noch immer als primäre Sozialisationsinstanz angesehen, weil sie besonders in den ersten Lebensjahren der zentrale Koordinationsort ist (vgl. ebd., S. 30 f.).
Die kulturellen, ökonomischen und normativen Lebensbedingungen werden von den Eltern und Kindern bereits in frühen Jahren aufgenommen und verarbeitet. Dabei kann festgehalten werden, dass die soziale Lebenslage und der Bildungsgrad der Eltern einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf den Sozialisationsprozess haben. Je besser die ökonomische Lage und je höher der Bildungsgrad der Eltern ist, desto reichhaltiger ist der Sozialisationsprozess. Zeitlich gesehen sind Schulen als zentrale Sozialisationsinstanz einzuordnen und haben - neben der Erziehung - zur Aufgabe, soziales und berufsrelevantes Wissen zu vermitteln und anhand dessen eine Vorauswahl für das spätere Erwerbsleben zu treffen (vgl. ebd., S. 31 f.).
In der fünften These heißt es:
„Nicht nur die Sozialisationsinstanzen haben Einfluss auf die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung, sondern auch andere Organisationen und Systeme, die in erster Linie Funktionen für Arbeit, Freizeit, Unterhaltung und soziale Kontrolle erbringen" (ebd., S. 32).
In hoch entwickelten Industriegesellschaften ist es typisch, dass eine Differenzierung in verschiedene Institutionen und Organisationen vorgenommen wird, was zu einer Verlagerung und Verbreitung der Sozialisationseffekte führt, da dies Einfluss auf die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung hat. Daher ist es wichtig, diese ihrer Relevanz nach zu ordnen. An erster Stelle stehen die „sozialen Netzwerke", zu denen, wie bereits erwähnt, die Familie, Verwandtschaft und der Freundeskreis als primäre Sozialisationsinstanzen gezählt werden können (vgl. ebd., S. 32). Bildungseinrichtungen (Kindertagesstätten, Schulen, Universitäten, Ausbildungseinrichtungen und sozialpädagogische Institutionen) zählen zu den sekundären Sozialisationsinstanzen. Zu den tertiären Sozialisationsinstanzen zählen die formellen und informellen sozialen Organisationen in der Freizeit,- und Wohnwelt, zu denen Gleichaltrigen- und Freundschaftsgruppen und Massenmedien (Radio, Fernsehen, Computer und Druckmedien) gehören. Letztgenannte sind aufgrund der fortschreitenden Weiterentwicklung der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik zu wichtigen tertiären Sozialisationsinstanzen in entwickelten Gesellschaften geworden (vgl. ebd., S. 33 f.). Aber auch öffentliche Institutionen und Behörden sind in dieser Sozialisationsinstanz zu finden. Zwar haben diese Einrichtungen zum Teil keine klar definierten Sozialisationsaufgaben, üben jedoch einen indirekten Sozialisationseffekt aus, wenn sich das Individuum intensiv mit seinen gestellten Aufgaben auseinandersetzt, was indirekt die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung beeinflusst (vgl. ebd., S. 33). Gleichaltrigengruppen unterstützen den Ablösungsprozess vom Elternhaus und bereiten auf soziale Anforderungen des täglichen Alltagsgeschehens vor (vgl. ebd., S. 34).
In Hurrelmanns sechster These geht es um zu bewältigende Entwicklungsaufgaben:
„Die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung besteht lebenslang aus einer nach Lebensphasen spezifischen Bewältigung von Entwicklungsaufgaben" (ebd., S. 35).
Diese These macht deutlich, dass es sich beim Entwicklungsprozess - wie bereits beschrieben - nicht um einen temporären, sondern lebenslangen Prozess handelt. Jeder Lebensabschnitt hält strukturelle Anforderungen an das Individuum bereit, die es mithilfe der inneren und äußeren Realität verarbeitet. Diese Anforderungen werden auch als Entwicklungsaufgaben bezeichnet. Das erfolgreiche Lösen dieser Aufgaben trägt zur individuellen Weiterentwicklung der Persönlichkeit bei (vgl. ebd., S. 35) und ergänzend hierzu wird mit der erfolgreichen Bewältigung Glück und Erfolg verbunden, wohingegen Misserfolge das Gegenteil verursacht. Denn Versagen macht das Individuum nicht nur unglücklich, sondern wird gesellschaftlich auch abgelehnt, was „zu Schwierigkeiten bei der Bewältigung späterer Entwicklungsaufgaben führt" (Ha- vighurst 1971, zit. nach Niederbacher, Zimmermann 2011, S. 146).
Nach Hurrelmann werden Entwicklungsaufgaben in einem Prozess der Selbstregulation bearbeitet und sind unabhängig vom Alter und in jeder Kultur vorzufinden. Ein Mensch hat in jeder Phase seines Lebens bestimmte Vorstellungen, wie es weitergehen wird und knüpft daran biologische Vorgaben, Temperament, persönliche Wünsche, Ansprüche, soziale Erwartungen, gesellschaftliche und materielle Umweltanforderungen an (vgl. Hurrelmann 2006, 35 f.). Die ständige Arbeit an der eigenen Person, wie bspw. die eigenen körperlichen und psychischen Veränderungen realistisch einzuschätzen zu lernen, ist einerseits Voraussetzung, um diese dann in ein neues Gesamtgefüge der Persönlichkeit einzubeziehen und andererseits eine wichtige Grundlage für die persönliche Weiterentwicklung. Die soziale und gegenständliche Umwelt wird mit allen seinen Sinnen wahrgenommen, geordnet, bewertet und verglichen. Diese Eindrücke werden sowohl auf kognitiver als auch auf affektiver Ebene miteinander verbunden und mit den eigenen Vorstellungen und Bedürfnissen aufeinander abgestimmt (vgl. ebd., S. 36). Für die Verarbeitung sind grundlegende Fähigkeiten und Fertigkeiten im sensorischen, motorischen, affektiven, kognitiven und interaktiven Bereich des Verhaltens und Handelns vonnöten. Jede Aneignung und Auseinandersetzung verändert und entwickelt somit langfristig auch das eigene Selbst weiter. Insbesondere in der Kindheits- und Jugendphase kommt es zu einem fortschreitenden Beherrschen dieser Fähigkeiten, die es dem Individuum ermöglichen, ein Gefühl für Situationen und die Umwelt zu entwickeln, um das Verhalten an diese anpassen zu können und zudem „ein wachsendes Verständnis der Zusammenhänge von Ereignissen und Strukturen der Umwelt sowie eine Fähigkeit zur Gestaltung der äußeren Realität zu erwerben" (ebd., S. 37).
Eine solche Qualität der Verarbeitungsfähigkeit wird in der Regel bei gesunden Menschen bis zum Ende des zweiten Lebensjahrzehnts erreicht. Dabei kommt es zu einem individuellen Verständnis der äußeren und inneren Realität und zur Erlangung der Fähigkeit zur Selbstreflexion. Bis zum Abschluss des Jugendalters werden feste Grundstrukturen der Abstimmung zwischen inneren Bedürfnissen und äußeren Erwartungen erarbeitet und ein System von Erfahrungen und Kompetenzen aufgebaut, das für die folgenden Lebensabschnitte hilfreich ist und flexibel weiterentwickelt werden kann. Im Jugendalter kommt es dabei zu einem intensiven Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Individualität (im Sinne der persönlichen Entfaltung), sozialer Integration in der Gesellschaft und der Bewältigung neuer Herausforderungen und Situationen. Dabei helfen die in der Jugendzeit entwickelten Grundstrukturen. Auch bei der Persönlichkeitsbildung im frühen und späten Erwachsenenalter dienen die jugendtypischen Formen der Lebensführung, für welche die selbstsuchende, sondierende Haltung charakteristisch ist, als Vorbild (vgl. ebd., S. 37). Bei einschneidenden Lebensereignissen wie zum Beispiel bei Trennung oder Scheidung vom Lebenspartner, Arbeitslosigkeit oder anderen Schicksalsschlägen, findet bei gesunden Menschen eine Neustrukturierung der Persönlichkeit statt, für die die erlernten Verarbeitungsmechanismen der inneren und äußeren Realität Voraussetzung sind, um sich in der neuen Situation zurechtfinden und einen Ausgleich schaffen zu können.
Es gilt festzuhalten, dass Sozialisation als permanentes Bewältigungsverhalten bezeichnet werden kann, da sich die Individualisierung und Vergesellschaftung der menschlichen Persönlichkeit in einem permanent, lebenslang anhaltendem Spannungsverhältnis befinden (vgl. ebd., S. 38).
In der siebten und damit letzten These des Modells der produktiven Realitätsverarbeitung von Hurrelmann, geht es um die Schaffung eines reflektierten Selbstbilds und die Entwicklung einer „Ich-Identität". Denn diese sind „Voraussetzung für ein autonom handlungsfähiges Subjekt und eine gesunde Persönlichkeitsentwicklung" (ebd., S. 38).
Wenn diese Voraussetzungen nicht geschaffen werden können, kann es zu Entwicklungsstörungen im körperlichen, psychischen und sozialen Bereich kommen. Somit ist ein reflektiertes Selbstbild Voraussetzung für die Fähigkeit zur ständigen Abstimmung der Verarbeitungsfähigkeiten. Das Selbstbild beschreibt, wie der Mensch seine eigenen Handlungsspielräume in der äußeren Realität einschätzt (vgl. ebd., S. 38). Wenn es zur Herausbildung einer erfolgreichen Selbstwahrnehmung und demzufolge einem gesunden Selbstwertgefühl gekommen ist, wurde eine gute Basis für die weitere Persönlichkeitsentwicklung geschaffen (vgl. ebd., S. 38).
Im nun folgenden Teil sollen die wichtigsten Aspekte der Sozialisation in der Jugendphase beschrieben werden.
Im vorangegangenen Teil dieser Arbeit wurde Sozialisation im Allgemeinen beschrieben. Da es in dieser Forschungsarbeit jedoch um Jugendliche geht, wird in diesem Teil folglich noch einmal intensiver auf die Sozialisation in der Lebensphase Jugend eingegangen. Denn jene stellt wie kaum eine andere Lebensphase einen solch entscheidenden und prägenden Einfluss für den weiteren Lebensverlauf eines Menschen dar, weshalb diese Hurrelmann und Bauer (2018) zufolge auch als Schlüsselphase und eigenständige Lebensphase verstanden werden kann (vgl. ebd., S. 850 f.).
Die Jugend wurde bereits um 1900 als eigenständige Phase betrachtet - allerdings mit dem Unterschied, dass sie gehobenen Gesellschaftsschichten vorbehalten war, was für alle anderen bedeutete, aus der Kindheit ohne Zwischenphase direkt ins Erwachsenenalter überzugehen (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2016, S. 19). Die Lebenssituationen der Jugendlichen sind heutzutage durch eine starke Heterogenität geprägt, sodass es Hurrelmann und Bauer zufolge schwierig ist, die Phase der Jugend auszudifferenzieren und eine Altersbegrenzung einzuführen (vgl. ebd., S. 851). Baacke zufolge kann die Zeit zwischen dem 13. und 18. Lebensjahr als Jugendalter bezeichnet werden (vgl. Baacke 2003, S. 41) und Süss et al. nach reicht es vom 12. bis zum 18. Lebensjahr (vgl. Süss et al. 2018, S. 34). Dem deutschen Jugendschutzgesetz (JuSchG) nach werden Personen vom 14. bis zum 18. Lebensjahr als Jugendliche bezeichnet (vgl. JuSchG 2017).
Der tatsächliche Eintritt ins Erwachsenenalter wird jedoch nicht anhand einer Altersbegrenzung, sondern anhand der Fähigkeiten, der Veränderung in der Rollenübernahme und Kriterien der sozialen Reife vorgenommen (vgl. Hirsch 2016, S. 29 f.). Ein wichtiges Kriterium hierfür ist der Abschluss einer schulischen-bzw. beruflichen Ausbildung, welche sich in modernen Gesellschaften immer weiter ausdehnt. Da sich der Eintritt ins Jugendalter immer weiter nach vorne verlagert, verkürzt sich einerseits die Kindheitsphase und andererseits dehnt sich dadurch die Phase der Jugend durch eine verlängerte schulische und berufliche Ausbildung immer weiter nach hinten aus (vgl. Hurrelmann 2012, S. 68). Durch den früheren Eintritt ins Jugendalter werden die Jugendlichen mit einer großen Dichte an zu bearbeitenden Entwicklungsaufgaben konfrontiert (vgl. Hurrelmann 2009, S. 235), welche heutzutage andere Herausforderungen als die vorangegangenen Jugendgenerationen bereithalten. Eine neu hinzugekommene Entwicklungsaufgabe ist der Umgang mit Medien (vgl. Süss et al. 2010, S. 19). Vor allem der richtige Umgang mit Internetmedien verlangt den Nutzenden eine hohe Kompetenz ab, denn diese/r muss lernen, die Relevanz und Glaubwürdigkeit der im Internet verbreiteten Informationen richtig einschätzen zu können (vgl. Hurrelmann 2012, S. 166). Indem Kinder und Jugendlichen sich mit Medien auseinandersetzen, entwickeln sie wichtige Fähigkeiten und Kompetenzen, die sie benötigen, um am gesellschaftlichen teilnehmen zu können. In diesem Zuge ist auch der Erwerb von Medienkompetenzen zu einer wichtigen Aufgabe geworden. Die Mediensozialisation erfolgt durch Pädagogen/-innen, Gleichaltrige, das Individuum selbst und ist von gesellschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen abhängig (vgl. Süss et al. 2010, S. 19). Medien können die Produktion eigener Inhalte fördern und somit Orientierungspunkte zur Selbstinszenierung und eigenen Identitätsentwürfen geben (vgl. Hurrelmann 2012, S. 166).
Überdies stellen Hurrelmann und Bauer (2018) drei „neue“ Herausforderungen vor. Erstens gestaltet es sich schwieriger, sich in einer zunehmend globalen und internationalen Welt zurechtzufinden, zu kommunizieren und interagieren. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass die heutige Jugend zunehmend in interkulturellen Räumen unterwegs ist, muss sie sich mit unterschiedlichen kulturellen Lebensweisen auseinandersetzen (vgl. ebd., S. 853). Indem Jugendliche die unterschiedlichen Lebensweisen verinnerlichen und mit ihren eigenen Erfahrungen, Einstellungs- und Handlungsmustern vergleichen, gestalten und entwickeln sie ihre eigene Persönlichkeit weiter (vgl. ebd., S. 853). In zweiter Linie verlaufen die Verselbständigung und die Ablösung vom Elternhaus zunehmend asynchron, was dazu führt, dass die einzelnen Schritte in Richtung Unabhängigkeit immer weiter voneinander abweichen. So kommt es zu einem Spannungsverhältnis „zwischen einer kulturellen und psychischen Reife einerseits und materiellen wie räumlichen Autonomie andererseits. Jugendliche müssen sich also im Vergleich zu früheren Generationen mit diesen Bedingungen arrangieren, Interaktions- und Kommunikationsformen danach ausrichten und lernen mit zum Teil widersprüchlichen sozialen Erwartungen umzugehen" (ebd., S. 853).
An dritter Stelle benennen Hurrelmann und Bauer die verstärkte Verschränkung und Entgrenzung der einzelnen Lebensbereiche, welche im Zuge veränderter Lebensbedingungen zustande kommt. Als Beispiel benennen sie die flächendeckende Einführung der Ganztagsschule, welche die Neujustierung familiärer Beziehungen zur Folge hat, da die Rechte und Pflichten zwischen Eltern, Kindern und Schule neu ausgehandelt und Zuständigkeiten erklärt werden müssen. Durch Einführungen wie diese und der Umstellung von G9 auf G8, kommt es zu einer zunehmenden Verlagerung der jugendlichen Freizeitwelten in den schulischen Raum (vgl. Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 853 f.), weshalb die Schule heutzutage eine der zentralen Sozialisationsinstanzen ist.
Denn die schulische Bildung und „die damit einhergehenden Zertifikate stellen für Jugendliche wie kaum ein anderer Bereich einen zentralen Ausgangspunkt für die Gestaltung ihrer Biografieverläufe dar" (ebd., S. 858).
Sie dienen nicht nur als Ressource für den Übergang ins Berufsleben, sondern auch für gesellschaftliche, soziale und kulturelle Teilhabe (vgl. ebd., S. 858).
Eine weitere wichtige Sozialisationsinstanz im Leben eines Jugendlichen stellt die Familie dar, welche sich im Zuge von Modernisierungs- Pluralisierungs- und „Enttraditi- onalisierungsprozessen" sowie der veränderten Frauenrolle stark verändert hat. Das traditionelle Familienmodell (Ehepartner mit einem oder mehreren Kindern) wurde durch eine Vielzahl alternativer Lebensformen ergänzt - zum Beispiel durch Paare ohne Kinder, Patchworkfamilien und gleichgeschlechtliche Partnerschaften.
„Entsprechend ist die heutige Familie in aller Regel eine >>Aushandlungsfamilie<<, die in der Beziehung zwischen den Generationen mehrheitlich auf jugendliche Mitgestaltung setzt" (Brake 2014, S. 141, zit. nach Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 860).
Es kommt zu gemeinsamen Verhandlungen der Rechte, Pflichten und Handlungsspielräume, was zur Stärkung der Kommunikationsfähigkeiten und Förderung der Durchsetzungsfähigkeit und Partizipation der Jugendlichen führt (vgl. ebd., S. 860). So ist in aller Regel der Ablösungsprozess von den Eltern zeitlich ausgedehnter und die Hinwendung zu Gleichaltrigen weniger von harten Brüchen als vielmehr von Phasenübergängen geprägt (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 154). Nichtsdestotrotz kommt die Adoleszenz meist nicht um Krisen in der Herkunftsfamilie herum. Zudem ist die Beziehungsqualität abhängig von der jeweiligen sozialen Herkunft (vgl. Shell Deutschland Holding 2010/Brake 2014, zit. nach Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 861). Dennoch wird Familie in der empirischen Forschung überwiegend „[...] als Ort von Liebe, Verlässlichkeit, Treue, Häuslichkeit und Partnerschaft verstanden«" (Münchmeier 2007, S. 268, zit. nach Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 861).
Eltern wird im Allgemeinen eine zentrale Bedeutung zugeschrieben, wenn es um Schule, Bildungsqualifikation, Ausbildung, Disziplin, Ordnung, Verantwortungsübernahme und Hilfestellung geht (vgl. Brake 2010, S. 396/Lange 2013, zit. nach Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 861).
Auch in der vergangenen Shell7 -Jugendstudie des letzten Jahres gaben 90% der befragten Jugendlichen an, dass die Familie, neben „guten Freunden" (97%) die wichtigsten Themen für sie sind (vgl. Shell Jugendstudie 2019). Demzufolge wird die Familie vor die Herausforderung gestellt, loslassen zu können, aber auch einen Raum des Rückzugs bereitzustellen und somit ein Gefühl von Sicherheit zu vermitteln (vgl. Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 861). Neben der Familie ist die Peergroup eine weitere wichtige Sozialisationsinstanz im Jugendalter. Gleichaltrige haben nicht nur Einfluss auf die Freizeitgestaltung, sondern ebenso auf die (kulturelle) Lebensführung und soziale Orientierung. Damit lösen Peers häufig die primäre Sozialisationsinstanz (also demzufolge die Familie) ab, indem sie neue Bildungs- und Sozialisationsräume in Schule und Freizeit bereitstellen. Peerbeziehungen sind vor allem eines: Vielfältig und meist darauf angelegt, langfristig zu bestehen. Sie vermitteln den Jugendlichen soziale Kompetenzen, Anerkennung und Wohlbefinden sowie reflexive Selbstvergewisserung. In der Folge sind Peerbeziehungen für Jugendliche Grundbedürfnis und Entwicklungsaufgabe zugleich (vgl. Krappmann 2010, Rohlfs 2010, zit. nach Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 862). Berücksichtigt werden sollte jedoch, so Hurrelmann und Bauer, dass die von den Peers ausgehenden Einflüsse nicht auf alle Jugendlichen zutreffen bzw. sich nicht bei jedem entfalten können. Vielmehr könne man die Peergroup an sich pauschalisieren, „weil die zu beobachtenden Sozialisationseinflüsse in einer Abhängigkeit zur Form und Zusammensetzung des jeweiligen Freundeskreises stehen. Ob es sich hierbei um eine Freundschaft, eine Cliquenbeziehung oder eine Interaktion im Rahmen von Jugendszenen handelt, kann genauso ausschlaggebend für den jeweiligen Sozialisations- und Bildungskontext sein wie die Konstellation der Bezugsgruppe(n) - differenziert nach Geschlecht, Alter oder sozialer und nationaler Herkunft -, in der oder in denen man sich bewegt" (Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 863).
Bei jenen sozialen Netzwerken handelt es sich um sehr differenzierte soziale Gebilde, die sich durch ständige Neujustierung auszeichnen und sowohl positiven als auch negativen Einfluss auf das Bildungs- und Sozialisationspotenzial haben können (vgl. ebd., S. 863).
Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass Jugendliche sich heutzutage in unterschiedlichen Sozialisationskontexten bewegen. Zwar kann die Familie nach wie vor als primäre Sozialisationsinstanz angesehen werden, aber auch der Schule und vor allem der Peergroup kann eine große Bedeutung in der Sozialisation Heranwachsender zugeschrieben werden (vgl. ebd., S. 864). Rückblickend auf das Modell der produktiven Realitätsverarbeitung (vgl. Kap. 2.1.1), lässt sich sagen, dass die jeweiligen Sozialisationserfahrungen der Jugendphase in andere Bereiche transportiert werden und somit aktiv an der Gestaltung der Umwelt beteiligt sind. Die Sozialisationskontexte wiederum gestalten sich sehr konträr voneinander und haben dadurch unterschiedliche Einflüsse auf die jeweilige Entwicklung der Heranwachsenden und deren Individualisierungsbestrebungen.
Anhand der genannten Aspekte sollte deutlich geworden sein, dass die Lebensräume bzw. Sozialisationsinstanzen nicht als Konkurrenten in Verbindung gebracht, sondern vielmehr als Ergänzung zueinander betrachtet werden sollten. Nichtsdestotrotz bedeutet dies, dass sich die Herausforderungen an Jugendliche verändert haben und ihnen eine höhere Flexibilität abverlangt wird (vgl. ebd., S. 864). Die Lebensphase Jugend ist Erikson zufolge als Entwicklungsphase zu verstehen, welche von der Suche nach der eigenen Identität besonders geprägt ist, da die kognitive Entwicklung erstmalig soweit fortgeschritten ist „dass sie die Heranwachsenden gefühlsmäßig und intellektuell als einheitlich und selbständig begreifen und wahrnehmen können. Der Selbstdefinition auf der einen Seite stehen Rollenzuweisungen und Rollenerwartungen der sozialen Umwelt auf der anderen Seite gegenüber. Zwischen diesen beiden Polen müssen sich die Jugendlichen verorten" (Niederbacher, Zimmermann 2011, S. 151).
Dadurch, dass der Peergroup auch im weiteren Verlauf dieser Arbeit besondere Aufmerksamkeit zukommt, wird die Bedeutung dieser Sozialisationsinstanz im nächsten Kapitel mit Bezug auf virtuelle Freundschaften erläutert.
Wie eingangs (vgl. Kap. 1) bereits erklärt wurde, handelt es sich bei Peergroups um informelle Spiel- und Freundschaftsgruppen von in etwa gleichaltrigen Kindern und Jugendlichen (vgl. Griese 2016, S. 57).
Im Laufe des vergangenen Jahrhunderts hat sich die „Peerforschung" zu einem relevanten Forschungsfeld entwickelt (vgl. Köhler et al. 2016, S. 11). Auch in der deutschsprachigen Literatur findet das Wort „Peers" Verwendung. In der Regel wird in verschiedenen Forschungsfeldern - in der erziehungswissenschaftlichen, sozialwissenschaftlichen sowie der entwicklungspsychologischen Forschung - zwischen vier Varianten von Peerbeziehungen unterschieden, deren Bedeutung sich im Lebensverlauf vom frühen Kindheitsalter bis zur Adoleszenz8 sukzessive steigert. An erster Stelle stehen „dyadische9, zunächst feste Freundschaftsbeziehungen, die durch Offenheit und Vertrautheit gekennzeichnet sind" (Krüger 2016, S. 38).
An zweiter Stelle stehen informelle Cliquen im schulischen und außerschulischen Kontext, die sich durch eine freiwillige Gruppenmitgliedschaft und hoher Fluktuation auszeichnen. Das dritte Glied im Bunde bilden organisierte Gruppen (Schulklassen und Vereine), welche aufgrund einer gemeinsamen Aufgabe eine Gruppe bilden. Oftmals werden jene auch als „Zwangsvergemeinschaftung" bezeichnet (vgl. Breiden- stein 2008, S. 950). Die vierte Variante bilden größere soziale Netzwerke, welche sich eher über oberflächliche Beziehungen und eine oftmals hohe Fluktuation kennzeichnen (vgl. Krüger 2016, S. 39). Virtuelle Peergroups lassen sich dementsprechend der vierten Variante zuordnen.
Aufgrund der stetigen Zunahme kostengünstiger Internetzugänge und mobiler Kommunikationsmedien (mit dem Smartphone als beliebtestes Kommunikationsmedium), kommt es zu einer zunehmenden Durchdringung des Alltags durch Online-Medien - insbesondere im Alltag von Jugendlichen. Für sie ist es keine Besonderheit mehr, enge Freundschaften und andere Peerbeziehungen heutzutage virtuell, also in einer Online-Umgebung zu führen und dort mit ihren Peers in Kontakt zu treten (vgl. Autenrieth, Neumann-Braun 2016, S. 339). Unter dem Schlüsselbegriff „Social Web" wird der Kern der Internetnutzung jugendlicher Peergroups ganz gut zusammengefasst, denn Jugendliche nutzen den virtuellen Austausch auf sehr vielfältige Art und Weise: um Informationen auszutauschen, Beziehungen aufzubauen und diese zu pflegen, miteinander zu kommunizieren und gesellschaftlich bzw. gemeinschaftlich zusammenzuarbeiten (vgl. Ebersbach et al. 2008, zit. nach Autenrieth, NeumannBraun 2006, S. 340).
Ohne größere technische Kenntnisse und mit nur wenigen Klicks lassen sich eigenständig Inhalte (Texte, Bilder, Verknüpfungen) online stellen, die dann mit anderen Nutzer/-innen geteilt werden können, um auf diesem Wege mit ihnen zu interagieren (vgl. Autenrieth, Neumann-Braun 2016, S. 341). Obwohl die virtuelle Kommunikation unter Peergroups zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil der Jugendlichen geworden ist, sind „Freunde oder Bekannte treffen“ die beliebteste Freizeitbeschäftigung der Jugendlichen im Alter von 12 bis 19 Jahren. 74% der Mädchen und 75% der Jungen gaben an, dass sie ihre Freunde täglich oder mehrmals pro Woche treffen. Somit haben Freunde/-innen für Jugendliche eine höhere Priorität als Sport oder Familienunternehmungen (vgl. Feierabend et al. 2019, S. 10).
„Wohin man auch geht, sich selbst entkommt man nicht“ (Haruki Murakami).
Dieses Zitat von Haruki Murakami macht deutlich, dass die Identität jedes einzelnen Menschen stets präsent und einzigartig ist. Das Wort „Identität“ stammt aus dem lateinischen Wort „idem“, welches übersetzt „derselbe“ bedeutet. Dem Duden nach kann dem Wort Identität zweierlei Bedeutung zugeschrieben werden: Auf der einen Seite steht es für die „Echtheit einer Person oder Sache“ und „die völlige Übereinstimmung mit dem, was sie ist oder als was sie bezeichnet wird“ und auf der anderen Seite drückt es die Art, wie sich eine Person erlebt, also das „Selbst“ als innere Einheit einer Person, aus (vgl. Duden (2), o.J.). In einer anderen Definition wird „Identität“ durch Kontinuität hergestellt. Konkret ist damit gemeint, dass die Identitätsbildung eines Individuums dann gelingt, wenn es in der Lage ist, kontinuierlich und über verschiedene Entwicklungs- und Lebensphasen hinweg, ein positives Selbstbild zu wahren (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 93 f.). Dennoch: Eine einheitliche Definition für Identität zu finden, gestaltet sich - trotz der Tatsache, dass der Begriff häufig Verwendung findet - schwierig (vgl. Mienert 2008, S. 73). Dies liegt Baacke (1985) zufolge nicht an der Nachlässigkeit der Autoren, sondern ist eher dem Phänomen „Identität“ als solchem geschuldet, da es sich nur schwer in Worte fassen lässt. Auch Wegener (2008) stimmt der Aussage, dass es quasi unmöglich erscheint, eine klar abgegrenzte Definition für Identität zu finden, zu. Baacke zufolge erweist sich die Nützlichkeit des Begriffs „vielmehr gerade darin, dass er eine Vielfalt von Aspekten in sich zusammenfaßt, deren Gemeinsames darin besteht, daß jemand ich sagen kann" (Baacke 1985, S. 140).
Nach Keupp et al. (1999) ist unter Identität ein „Projektentwurf des eigenen Lebens" zu verstehen, welche jedoch keineswegs nur im Jugendalter stattfindet (vgl. Wegener 2008, S. 40). Denn in einer Gesellschaft, die dem Individuum stets Selbstreflexion und Neuorientierung abverlangt, muss Identität ferner als alltägliche Aufgabe und Identitätsarbeit somit als lebenslanger Prozess gesehen werden, der heranwachsende Jugendliche ebenso betrifft wie deren Eltern und Großeltern (vgl. ebd., S. 40 f.).
In der Entwicklung einer Identität geht es laut Resch und Schulte-Markwort (2008) darum, eine Passung zwischen subjektivem Inneren und gesellschaftlichem Außen herzustellen (vgl. Resch, Schulte-Markwort 2008, S. 85).
Mienert (2008) zufolge soll Identität etwas über die Einmaligkeit und Unverwechsel- barkeit eines Menschen aussagen. Daher sollte der Blick auf die vergangene Lebensgeschichte gerichtet werden, d.h. zu schauen, an welchen Orten man gelebt hat, in welchem Umfeld, mit welchen Freunden, unterschiedlichen Partnerschaften und Berufen. Zudem wesentlich ist die Frage nach der eigenen Weltanschauung, die sich im Laufe der Jahre zu großer Wahrscheinlichkeit geändert hat. Obwohl sich diese Aspekte und Ansichten im Laufe des Lebens ändern, so bleibt eines gleich: Wir erkennen uns wieder.
„Wir wissen, dass wir das gewesen sind und warum wir damals so gedacht und gelebt haben, es ist für uns typisch. Wir wissen auch, dass die anderen von damals uns wiedererkennen. Identität ist also das, was über die Zeit kontinuierlich aufscheint, zu allen Momenten gleich ist, was dafür sorgt, dass wir uns immer wiedererkennen können. Wir wissen, was uns die ganze Zeit über begleitet hat" (ebd., S. 74).
Doch unklar ist nun nach wie vor, wie Identität - insbesondere in der Phase der Jugend - sowie in der gegenwärtig mediatisierten Gesellschaft entsteht. Daher wird im nun folgenden Teil beschrieben, wie sich der Identitätsbildungsprozess in der Jugendphase vollzieht.
„Wer bin ich?", „Wer will ich mal sein?" Fragen, die heutige Jugendliche nicht gleichgültig lassen. Fragen, die jedoch schwer zu beantworten sind in einer Gesellschaft mit unendlich vielen Möglichkeiten" (Karstädter 2013, S. 1).
Beim Identitätsbildungsprozess handelt es sich um einen weit gefassten Begriff (siehe 2.3.), bei dem die Definition nicht in einem Satz gelingt. Zwar entwickeln bereits Kleinkinder - indem sie erkennen, dass sie einzelne Personen sind - eine Vorstellung vom eigenen Ich, doch das intensive Nachdenken über die eigene Identität findet erst ab dem Jugendalter statt. In dieser Phase nehmen die Jugendlichen ihre Identität zum ersten Mal vergangenheits- und zukunftsorientiert wahr (vgl. Mienert 2008, S. 74).
Ausgehend vom Sozialisationsziel eines Menschen in Kap. 2.2 lässt sich festhalten, dass jede Phase eines Menschen spezielle Entwicklungsaufgaben bereithält, die es zu bewältigen gilt (vgl. Havighurst 1972; Dreher und Dreher 1985, zit. nach Süss 2004, S. 34).
Wenngleich es sich beim Prozess der Identitätsbildung um einen lebenslang andauernden Prozess handelt, „(...) kommt der Jugendphase tragende Bedeutung zu, in der wesentliche Entscheidungen und Dispositionen der Selbstverortung getroffen werden" (Körber, Schaffar 2002, S. 80).
Auch der deutsch-amerikanische Psychoanalytiker Erik H. Erikson geht in seiner psychodynamischen Theorie (1973) davon aus, dass ein menschliches Individuum gewisse Entwicklungsaufgaben meistern muss, um eine Identität bilden zu können (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 34). Erikson definiert Identität als das bewusste oder unbewusste Erleben der „Ich-Kontinuität", da das Individuum lernt, dass es das „Gleiche" bleibt, auch wenn es sich verändert (vgl. Niederbacher, Zimmermann 2011, S. 150). Nach Erikson werden in der Jugendphase erstmalig Voraussetzungen geschaffen, die zum Identitätsentwicklungsprozess benötigt werden. Zu den bereits beschriebenen Entwicklungsaufgaben gehören auch Krisen (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 34). In der Jugendphase wird sich erstmalig und eigenständig mit Projektentwürfen des eigenen Lebens auseinandergesetzt, die sich auf die Planung der mittelfristigen Zukunft beziehen, wie das folgende Zitat zum Ausdruck bringt:
„Waren Fragen der Lebensplanung und -Strukturierung vormals durch die Herkunftsfamilie geregelt oder stellten sich entwicklungsbiografisch erst gar nicht, verlangen die spezifischen Entwicklungen des Jugendalters nun zum ersten Mal nach eigenen Antworten und Handlungskonzepten mit Blick auf die unterschiedlichen Teilbereiche der Identitätsbildung [...]" (Wegener 2008, S. 42).
Zentrale Entwicklungsaufgaben im Jugendalter sind - neben der Ablösung aus dem Elternhaus - die selbständige Aufnahme und bewusste Gestaltung sozialer Freundschafts- und Liebesbeziehungen sowie die Vorbereitung auf eine berufliche Beschäftigung bzw. der Erwerb der dafür notwendigen Qualifikationen (wie bspw. dem passenden Schulabschluss) (vgl. ebd., S. 42). Das erfolgreiche Lösen dieser herausfordernden Aufgaben lässt eine Persönlichkeitsstruktur entstehen, welche die Basis zur Entwicklung einer eigenen Identität darstellt (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 34). Erikson zufolge ist der sich körperlich verändernde Jugendliche in erster Linie damit beschäftigt, seine eigene soziale Rolle zu finden und diese zu festigen. Und dieser Prozess finde zu großen Teilen über soziale Vergleiche statt (vgl. Hirsch 2016, S. 12).
Auch Altmeyer (2019) teilt die Ansicht, dass die Umwelt eine wesentliche Rolle bei der Entwicklung einer eigenen Identität spielt:
„Was wir unsere Subjektivität oder Persönlichkeit, unser Selbst oder unsere Identität nennen, entwickelt sich nicht wie der Apfel aus dem Kern [...]. Nur vermittelt über Umweltresonanz erwerben wir Identität. Erst im Austausch mit anderen Menschen entsteht unser Selbst. Subjektivität geht einher mit Intersubjektivität" (Altmeyer 2019, S. 31).
Besonders relevant für den Jugendlichen ist vor allem das soziale Ansehen und wie er/sie in den Augen der Anderen wahrgenommen wird, um die bereits aufgebauten Rollen und Fähigkeiten mit den Anforderungen der Gesellschaft in Einklang bringen zu können (vgl. Hirsch 2016, S. 12). Erikson hat zu diesem Aspekt ein entwicklungspsychologisches Stufenmodell entworfen. Dieses beschreibt die lebenslang bestehende Spannung zwischen den Bedürfnissen eines Kindes, Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen, welche mit den jeweiligen Anforderungen der gesellschaftlichen Umwelt in Einklang zu bringen sind (vgl. Hurrelmann, Bauer 2018, S. 62). Er sieht die Jugendphase als zentrale Phase der Identitätsrekonstruktion an. Dabei unterscheidet er zwischen einer persönlichen und einer sozialen Identität. Unter dem Konstrukt „Identität" versteht er das unbewusste Streben nach einer Kontinuität des Erlebens, ein bewusstes Gefühl der individuellen Einmaligkeit und schließlich auch die Solidarität mit den Idealen einer Gruppe oder größeren Gemeinschaft (vgl. Süss 2004, S. 34).
Zur Erarbeitung der eigenen Identität seien Fragen wie „Wer bin ich? Zu wem gehöre ich, was ist mir wichtig und wer möchte ich sein?" zentral. Eine Antwort auf diese Fragen wurde schon vor zweieinhalbtausend Jahren versucht zu finden. Die Faszination an der Frage nach der Identität ist bis heute jedoch ungebrochen (vgl. Leipold, Greve 2008, S. 398). Um Antworten auf diese Fragen zu finden, ist eine gewisse Distanz zu den Identifikationen der Kindheitszeit und dem familiären Umfeld Voraussetzung, um prüfen zu können, was weiterhin Bestand haben soll, modifiziert werden kann oder verworfen werden muss (vgl. Göppel 2019, S. 115).
Mit der Frage nach dem „Ich" wird sich zwar in jedem Lebensalter aufs Neue beschäftigt, doch die Phase der Jugend stellt dabei den wichtigsten und entscheidendsten Lebensabschnitt dar, wenn es um die Identitätsbildung geht (vgl. Karstädter 2013, S. 4). Denn mit dem Eintritt ins Jugendalter wird eine intensive Zeit der Auseinandersetzung und Reflexion des Selbst beschrieben (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 94). Zudem ist diese Phase durch unterschiedliche Veränderungen gekennzeichnet. Im Zuge rasanter Veränderungen auf körperlicher (Körperwachstum, Geschlechtsreife) und sozialer Ebene (neue Bezugspersonen), kommt es zu einer Neubewertung alter Orientierungen und zahlreichen Differenzerfahrungen (Individualisierung, Enttraditi- onalisierung, etc.), die den Heranwachsenden vor die Herausforderung stellen, kurzfristigen Veränderungen und den damit verbundenen Risiken offen gegenüber zu treten (vgl. Karstädter 2013, S. 4). Die Jugendphase „[...] ist eine „Phase des Zweifels, des Experimentierens, Entwerfens und Revidierens" (Abels 2010, S. 282, zit. nach Karstädter 2013, S. 4 f.).
In der heutigen Zeit werden Jugendliche immer früher mit einer Welt außerhalb des Elternhauses konfrontiert, wodurch sie ihren Erfahrungsschatz stets erweitern und sich anderen Peergroups anschließen. Es wird geprüft, ob und inwieweit die eigenen kindlichen Deutungsmuster mit den neuen Bezugspersonen zusammenpassen, um alte und neue Identifikationen miteinander zu vereinen. Auch die Loslösung alter Bezüge und Bezugspersonen gehört dazu (vgl. ebd., S. 5).
In Eriksons Stufenmodell (1973) werden die bereits beschriebenen Voraussetzungen, wie z.B. die Bewältigung altersspezifischer Entwicklungsaufgaben, als grundlegend für die Entwicklung einer stabilen Identität zum Übergang ins Erwachsenenalter angesehen. Überdies stehen die lebenslangen Koordinationsprozesse, die ein Mensch unternimmt, um die eigenen physischen und psychischen Bedürfnisse mit der Umwelt zu vereinen, im Vordergrund (vgl. Hurrelmann 2012, S. 33). Wenn das Individuum es nicht schafft, eine stabile Identität herzustellen, kann es zu Entwicklungsstörungen auf körperlicher und geistiger Ebene kommen (vgl. Hirsch 2016, S. 17). Für Erikson (1973) setzt Identität sich aus dem bewussten Gefühl der „Ich-Identität" und Kontinuität zusammen. Das Individuum setzt sich mit unterschiedlichen Thematiken auseinander, welche den Lebenslauf strukturieren, sodass die Entwicklung nach einem universellen Grundschema verläuft. Wie bereits erwähnt, gehören Krisen und die Suche nach dem Platz in der Gesellschaft zum Identitätsfindungsprozess dazu, was laut Erikson teilweise zu heftigen inneren Konflikten und sozialen Auseinandersetzungen führen kann. Doch nur wenn es gelingt, diese Entwicklungsaufgaben zu bewältigen, kann eine weitere Stufe in der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung erreicht und die Identität Stück für Stück entwickelt werden (vgl. Hurrelmann 2012, S. 33), worin Erikson die zentrale Aufgabe der Jugend sieht (vgl. Leipold, Greve 2008, S. 401). Die bereits erwähnten Krisen sind Teil der Identitätsbildung und kommen nicht ohne den Konflikt der „Identität vs. Identitätsdiffusion“ aus. Es gilt, diesen Konflikt zum Zeitpunkt der Entwicklung zu lösen, was ferner bedeutet, dass alle Selbstzweifel überwunden werden müssen. Die Phase der Selbstzweifel bildet jedoch auch einen wichtigen Beitrag, was das Entwicklungsstadium der Jugendphase anbelangt. Laut Hurrelmann und Quenzel wird durch die Auseinandersetzung und die Bewältigung der Entwicklungsaufgaben der „psychische Kern“ eines Heranwachsenden gebildet. Einer der Konflikte besteht darin, die eigene Persönlichkeit vor der „Zerstückelung“ zu bewahren und das Selbstbild zu erhalten (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 33). Und dies verlangt dem Jugendlichen die Fähigkeit der Selbstreflexion ab.
Durch steigenden Leistungsdruck und unsichere Zukunftsaussichten in gegenwärtig existierenden Gesellschaften werden die Fähigkeiten, sich mit der Welt außerhalb des Elternhauses zu beschäftigen und die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Selbst, immer wichtiger - beispielsweise, um neue Erfahrungen zu sammeln und sich neuen Peergroups anschließen zu können. Denn in heutigen Gesellschaften, ist die Frage nach Identität und Zugehörigkeit sehr ins Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit gerückt (vgl. Karstädter 2013, S. 3 ff.).
Um Antworten auf diese Fragen zu bekommen, verwenden Jugendliche Medien (vgl. Süss, Hipeli 2010, S. 146). Bei der Identitätsentwicklung in mediatisierten Welten handelt es sich um einen dynamischen Prozess in realen und virtuellen Interaktionsbeziehungen (vgl. Vogelgesang 2014, S. 151). Jugendliche nutzen Medien, um Entwicklungsaufgaben zu bewältigen, indem sie sich Kompetenzen und Fähigkeiten aneignen, die sie benötigen, um am gesellschaftlichen Leben teilnehmen zu können. Daher kann Medienkompetenz zu einer der heute existierenden Entwicklungsaufgaben hinzugezählt werden (vgl. Süss et al. 2010, S. 19). Somit sind Medien zu einem wichtigen Bestandteil der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung geworden und sollten jedem Nutzenden die Möglichkeit bieten, zu einem „selbständigen Produzenten seiner eigenen Entwicklung“ heranzureifen (Hurrelmann 2012, S. 166): Unter Berücksichtigung dessen sollten entsprechende Kompetenzen zum souveränen Umgang eine wesentliche Rolle in der Sozialisation einnehmen (vgl. ebd., S. 166).
Identitätsarbeit meint auch, dass der Mensch versucht, all seine Erfahrungen in einen sinnhaften Zusammenhang zu bringen. Im Gegensatz zu heutigen Gesellschaften, hatten die Menschen in der Vergangenheit aufgrund von starken traditionellen Strukturen wenig Wahlmöglichkeiten, was die jeweilige Identitätsarbeit eines Menschen zu keiner besonderen Herausforderung machte. Jeder war sich seiner Herkunft und Möglichkeiten bewusst. Die Globalisierung unserer pluralistischen Gesellschaft führt zu einem Verlust der sicher geglaubten traditionellen Bindungen und Strukturen. An diese Stelle treten Individualisierung und Flexibilisierung, welche unzählige Lebensentwürfe - frei nach dem Motto „Alles ist möglich, aber alles könnte auch anders sein“ - u.a. über das Internet verbreiten (vgl. Karstädter 2013, S. 4).
Diese Aspekte sowie die Tatsache, dass Jugendliche mit der Aufgabe, eine eigene Identität zu finden und sich ein Beziehungsnetz zu knüpfen, oftmals alleine gelassen werden, beeinflussen die Identitätsbildung ungemein (vgl. Wampfler 2018, S. 9).
Heutzutage steht das Individuum vor der Herausforderung, sich eine eigene Identität zusammenzustellen, indem es aus verschiedenen Optionen die für sich passende Auswahl trifft. Dabei wird es vor eine große Zahl von Wahl- und Entscheidungsmöglichkeiten gestellt. Vor allem Jugendlichen fällt es schwer, sich bei der großen Bandbreite zu orientieren und ihre Identität zu bündeln. Dieser Prozess wird von Jugendlichen dazu genutzt, immer wieder widersprüchliche Aspekte in die Identität zu integrieren, sodass die Anforderungen der Identitätskonstruktion an das Individuum zunehmen (vgl. Röll 2014, S. 274).
Nach Körber und Schaffar könne man nicht von einer „einzig wahren“ Identität sprechen, da sich Identität aus mehreren Teilidentitäten zusammensetze. Dieses sogenannte „Roletaking“ ermöglicht es, das Handeln an unterschiedliche Situationen anzupassen (vgl. Körber und Schaffar 2002, S. 80 f.). Jenes beschreibt folglich das Einnehmen unterschiedlicher sozialer Rollen und ist abhängig vom jeweiligen Kontext, um die gestellten Erwartungen erfüllen und handlungsfähig bleiben zu können. So lässt sich beobachten, dass ein Jugendlicher sich im Beisein seiner Eltern anders als unter seinen Peers verhält. So nimmt dieser im Beisein der Eltern die Rolle des Kindes und in der Peergroup die Rolle der Freundin oder des Freundes ein. Hieraus lässt sich ableiten, dass Identität immer im Zusammenhang mit dem sozialen Umfeld gedacht werden sollte. Folgendermaßen ist die Entscheidung, welche Identität zum Tragen kommt abhängig vom Kontext und den Erwartungen, in der sich das Individuum befindet. Da das Individuum in diesem sozialen Kontext seine eigenen Identitätsentwürfe präsentiert, kann dies als soziale Kompetenz angesehen werden, welche bei der Konstruktion der eigenen Identität eine maßgebliche Rolle spielt (vgl. Wegener 2008, S. 49). Zwar beginnt die Wahrnehmung der eigenen Identität erstmalig im Kindesalter, doch insbesondere in der Jugendphase kommt es aufgrund erweiterter kognitiver Fähigkeiten zum intensivierten Nachdenken über sich selbst. Jugendliche können in sogenannten „Möglichkeitsräumen“ denken, ihre Identität vergangenheitsund zukunftsorientiert wahrnehmen und kritisch reflektieren (vgl. Mienert 2008, S. 74). Aufgrund dieser Tatsache entwickeln sie - wie das nachfolgende Zitat zum Ausdruck bringt - das Bedürfnis, sich in einer Welt zu orientieren, sich selbst und anderen gegenüber zu verorten und schließlich eine selbstbestimmte Identität zu entwickeln.
Sie orientieren sich „[...] zum Teil an Vorbildern, ahmen diese nach, stülpen sie [...] wie eine Identitätshülse über und schauen, ob diese Hülse auch zu ihnen passt" (Mienert 2008, S. 76).
Nach Vogelgesang (2014) findet Identitätsentwicklung im sozialen Kontext statt und kann sich nur in der Interaktion mit anderen Individuen und in der Auseinandersetzung mit materiellen und sozialen Rahmenbedingungen herausbilden (vgl. Vogelgesang 2014, S. 138). Die Identität entwickelt sich über Erfahrungen, welche über Abgrenzung und Zugehörigkeit, Erwartungsstrukturen und Gruppenbewusstsein in die Biografie eingebaut werden. Peergroups bilden diese wesentliche Sozialisationsinstanz. Innerhalb der Peergroup wird den Jugendlichen ein zentrales Feld geboten, um sich auszuprobieren und erhalten unmittelbar im Anschluss eine Rückmeldung auf die verschiedenen Identitätsmöglichkeiten (vgl. Mienert 2008, S. 81).
An dieser Stelle gilt festzuhalten, dass es sich bei der Identitätsarbeit - ebenso wie beim Sozialisationsprozess - jeweils um lebenslange Prozesse und es sich bei der Identitätsentwicklung zu keinem Zeitpunkt um eine Tatsache, sondern die fortwährende Arbeit an sich selbst, handelt (vgl. Wegener 2008, S. 40 f.), da der Mensch immer neue Erfahrungen macht, die seine Identität beeinflussen. Karstädter zufolge dienen Medien als Materiallieferant in der Identitätsarbeit von Jugendlichen (vgl. Karstädter 2013, S. 3). Denn zur Identitätsbildung braucht es eine permanente experimentelle Selbstinszenierung (vgl. Vogelgesang 2014, S. 139), welche heutzutage oftmals in sozialen Online-Netzwerken stattfindet.
Da diese Forschungsarbeit die Selbstdarstellung von Jugendlichen im sozialen OnlineNetzwerk Instagram untersucht, wird sich das nun folgende Kapitel (3) mit der Thematik „Jugend und Medien" auseinandersetzen.
Um die Relevanz sozialer Medien in der Identitätsbildung aufzeigen zu können, wird sich das nun folgende Kapitel mit aktuellen Zahlen zum Mediennutzungsverhalten von Jugendlichen (3.1), einer Beschreibung der ausgewählten Plattform Instagram (3.2) , mit der Selbstdarstellung in sozialen Netzwerken am Beispiel von Instagram (3.3) und dem Phänomen des „Selfies“ (3.4) beschäftigen. Im Anschluss wird noch der aktuelle Forschungsstand der Medienpädagogik beschrieben (3.5).
„Jugendliche wachsen mit einem breiten Repertoire an Mediengeräten auf. Smartphone, Com- puter/Laptop und WLAN sind in praktisch allen Familien vorhanden [...]“ (Feierabend et al. 2019, S. 5).
An folgendem Textausschnitt ist deutlich zu erkennen, dass ein Aufwachsen ohne Mediengeräte im Leben eines Heranwachsenden heutzutage nicht mehr vorzustellen ist. Als wichtigstes Medium der deutschen Haushalte mit Jugendlichen ist das Smartphone: Insgesamt gaben 99% an, im Besitz eines solchen Gerätes zu sein (vgl. Feierabend et al. 2019, S. 5).
Auch unter deutschen Jugendlichen ist das Smartphone das beliebteste Mediengerät: 2019 besitzen laut JIM-Studie 93% der in Deutschland lebenden Jugendlichen im Alter von 12 bis 19 Jahren ein eigenes Smartphone (vgl. ebd., S. 7). In der Altersklasse der 14-17-Jährigen sind im Schnitt 95% Smartphone-Besitzer zu verzeichnen - und dies trotz des Fakts, dass der Besitz im Vergleich zum Vorjahr um drei Prozent gesunken ist. Bezüglich des Smartphone-Gerätebesitzes gibt es zwischen Mädchen und Jungen keinen nennenswerten Unterschied. In der Erhebung von 2019 gaben 95% der Mädchen und 92% der Jungen an (in den Altersklassen 12-19), ein eigenes Smartphone zu besitzen (vgl. ebd., S. 8).
Nicht nur ein Aufwachsen mit Mediengeräten ist für viele Jugendliche zu einer Selbstverständlichkeit geworden, sondern auch die Nutzung sozialer Online-Netzwerke (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 196), was zu einer grundlegenden Veränderung des Interaktions- und Kommunikationsverhalten geführt hat (vgl. Hirsch 2016, S. 52). Jugendliche, die häufig auch als „Digital Natives“ bezeichnet werden, erschließen sich den Markt der neuen Medien normalerweise ohne maßgebliche Unterstützung seitens der Eltern oder Pädagoginnen (vgl. Hurrelmann, Quenzel 2012, S. 197). Die Medieninhalte sorgen in Familien und Peergroups für ordentlich Gesprächsstoff und tragen gleichermaßen zur Meinungsbildung und Ausbildung von Gruppenidentitäten bei. Somit erhöht sich die Möglichkeit, mit anderen zu kommunizieren (vgl. Fromme, Sesink 2008, S. 36). In der Erhebung des vergangenen Jahres konnten dem Smartphone, Internet und Musik hören den größten Stellenwert unter Jugendlichen eingeräumt werden.
Was die alltägliche Nutzung angeht, gaben die Jugendlichen folgendes an: 92% der Jugendlichen nutzen täglich ihr Smartphone, 89% nutzen täglich das Internet und 77% hören täglich Musik (vgl. Feierabend et al. 2019, S. 12).
„Während die Jugendlichen das Netz vor fünf Jahren vor allem zur Kommunikation nutzten, liegt der Unterhaltungsaspekt (Bilder, Videos, Musik) mittlerweile fast gleichauf" (Feierabend et al. 2020, S. 30). 33% davon nutzen das Internet zu Kommunikationszwecken und 30% der Unterhaltung wegen. Kommunikation findet häufig auch über soziale Online-Netzwerke statt. Diese immer stärker werdende Annäherung lässt sich nur durch eine Vermischung der kommunikativen und unterhaltenden Aspekte von Social Media Anwendungen (Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube) erklären. Dies führt dazu, dass diese sich nur noch kaum voneinander trennen lassen (vgl. ebd., S. 30).

1 Der Medienpädagogische Forschungsverbund Südwest - im Nachfolgenden mit MpFS abgekürzt - untersucht seit 1998 jährlich das Mediennutzungsverhalten der Jugendlichen im Alter von 12 bis 19 Jahren in Deutschland (vgl. Feierabend et al. 2019, S. 2).
2 Die „Jugend, Information, Medien“-Studie, nachfolgend JIM-Studie genannt, hat im Zeitraum vom 28. Mai bis 17. August 2019 bundesweit 1.200 Jugendliche im Alter von zwölf bis 19 Jahren telefonisch zu ihrem Mediennutzungsverhalten befragt. Aufgrund der Abnahme der Festnetzanschlüsse, war es notwendig, die Stichprobe im Jahr 2019 erstmalig um Mobiltelefonnummern zu erweitern. Die Befragung bildet ein repräsentatives Abbild der ca. 6,3 Mio. deutschsprachigen Jugendlichen (vgl. Feierabend et al. 2019, S. 2 f.).

4 Stories: Instagram Stories ist eine Funktion, mit der eine Slideshow von Fotos, Videos, Textinhalten und vielem mehr erstellt werden kann. Diese Geschichten erscheinen nicht im regulären InstagramFeed, also auf der jeweiligen Profilseite der Nutzerin/des Nutzers, sondern über einem sog. „Newsfeed“. Nach 24 Stunden verschwinden die geposteten Inhalte der Slideshow automatisch. Die Nutzer/-innen können die Fotos/Inhalte vor dem Posten, bspw. mit Filtern bearbeiten (vgl. Instagram, o.J.).
5 Mit dem englischen Wort „liken“ (z.D.: mögen) ist ein Phänomen in sozialen Netzwerken gemeint. Dort kann man eine Schaltfläche (ein Foto oder Video) anklicken, um eine dieses positiv zu bewerten (vgl. Duden (1), o.J.).
6 Der Begriff Peergroup lässt sich ableiten vom lateinischen Wort „pariparis“ welcher sich mit „gleich“ übersetzen lässt und „Gleichaltrige“ bzw. „Ebenbürtige“ bedeutet (vgl. Köhler et al. 2016, S. 11/Krüger 2016, S. 38). „Peers“ bzw. „peer group“ bezeichnet eine in etwa homogene Alters- und Gesinnungsgruppe. In Kap. 2.2 wird dieser Begriff näher beleuchtet.
7 Die Shell-Jugendstudie gibt es seit 1953. Im Oktober 2019 wurde die 18. Shell Jugendstudie mit dem Untertitel „Eine Generation meldet sich zu Wort" veröffentlicht. Zwischen Januar und März 2019 wurden 2.572 Jugendliche im Alter von 12 bis 25 Jahren aus Deutschland mittels eines standardisierten Fragebogens zu ihrer Lebenssituation, ihren Einstellungen und Orientierungen persönlich befragt. Ergänzend hierzu wurden zwei- bis dreistündige qualitative, vertiefende Interviews mit 20 Jugendlichen dieser Altersgruppe durchgeführt (vgl. Shell.de 2019).
8 Die Adoleszenz bzw. das Jugendalter (vgl. Baacke 2003, S. 41) ist eine eigenständige Phase zwischen Kindheit und Erwachsenenalter (vgl. Süss, Hipeli 2010, S. 142). Mit 13 Jahren beginnt der puberale Wachstumsschub, welcher von „der Reifung der Geschlechtsmerkmale" (Baacke 2003, S. 41) begleitet wird und ca. mit 17 oder 18 Jahren beendet ist (vgl. ebd., S. 41).
9 Der Begriff Dyade bezeichnet eine intensive Zweierbeziehung. Oftmals handelt es sich um eine Zweierbeziehung innerhalb einer Familie.
