The primary objective of this work is to examine the normative frameworks and durable solutions for addressing internal displacement in Africa, focusing particularly on the Ethiopian context. The study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the region and to propose recommendations for enhancing protection and assistance.

• International and regional normative frameworks on internal displacement.
• The role of humanitarian law and human rights law in addressing the needs of IDPs.
• Factors driving internal displacement in Africa, including conflict, natural disasters, and climate change.
• Challenges and opportunities for achieving durable solutions for IDPs, including protection, humanitarian assistance, and development.
• The importance of addressing root causes of displacement and promoting peacebuilding and reconciliation.

The first part of this work provides acknowledgements and dedications. The second part delves into the introduction and background of the study. It discusses the definition of internal displacement and explores the historical evolution of the concept, highlighting key international resolutions and frameworks.

The third part focuses on the discussion and results. It examines international normative and institutional frameworks on displacement, including international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement. It then explores regional frameworks, focusing on the Kampala Convention and the Great Lakes Protocol, and examines specific normative and institutional frameworks within Ethiopia.
