Oft sind es die Medien selbst, die sich an der Medialisierung des Para-Sports versuchen – mit gemischten Resultaten. Sogenannte Human-Interest-Themen sind in der Behindertensportberichterstattung beliebt. Dieser Fakt äußert sich in der Berichterstattung entweder in Betroffenheitsjournalismus oder in Übermensch-Narrativen. So oder so wird der Fokus vom eigentlichen Sport weg gelenkt. Einerseits belegt die erfolgreiche Superhuman-Kampagne der Paralympics von 2012, dass Menschen auf so etwas zum Teil positiv reagieren, andererseits mögen die Sportler in der Regel ein solches Narrativ nicht. Das IPC selbst positioniert sich in den eigenen Richtlinien ebenfalls gegen eine solche Inszenierung und hat dezidierte Forderungen an die Berichterstattung. Doch wie geht das IPC vor diesem gerade geschilderten Kontext damit konkret auf YouTube um?
Dass große Sportverbände wie das IPC versuchen, den eigenen Sport über diverse Kanäle an ein disperses Publikum zu verbreiten, ist dabei nichts Neues. Der Stellenwert des Sports hat in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten eine rasante Entwicklung genommen. Einige Sportarten, wie in Deutschland in erster Linie der Fußball, weisen eine hohe Nachfrage auf. Entsprechend präsent ist der Fußball in der heutigen Medienlandschaft. Andere Sportarten fristen dagegen eher ein Nischendasein. Um attraktiver für die Zuschauer und somit populärer zu werden, versuchen sich solche Sportarten an die Erfolgsbedingungen der Medien anzupassen. Dazu scheint jedes Mittel recht. Von kleineren ästhetischen Änderungen, bis hinzu zu Eingriffen in das Regelwerk. So wurden etwa die Outfits im Beachvolleyball durch Kleidungsvorschriften immer kürzer – die Popularität stieg. Der Respekt für den eigentlichen Sport musste dabei jedoch in diesem Fall einem voyeuristischen Interesse weichen. Auch am Behindertensport lassen sich, seitdem dieser in den letzten Jahren an medialer Präsenz gewonnen hat, ähnliche Entwicklungen ablesen. In den verschiedenen Disziplinen wurde wenig zu Gunsten der Attraktivität des Wettkampfs verändert. Zwar werden etwa vereinfachte Klassifizierungssysteme der verschiedenen Schadensklassen immer wieder diskutiert, aber noch nicht im großen Stil umgesetzt.
