Der Film "Joker" aus dem Jahr 2019, unter der Regie von Todd Phillips porträtiert den Wandel des Protagonisten Arthur Fleck zum Batman-Antagonisten Joker. Trotz seiner Anerkennung wurde der Film aufgrund seiner Gewaltdarstellungen kontrovers diskutiert. Die vorliegende Arbeit evaluiert, wie die Transformation der Figur durch filmästhetische Gestaltungsmittel inszeniert wurde und ob diese an den kontroversen Diskussionen Anteil haben. Die praktische Untersuchung der Forschungsfrage erfolgt mittels einer Filmanalyse, die spezifische Szenen der Transformation untersucht. Durch Literaturrecherche wird die Analyse ergänzt. Wie die Ergebnisse zeigen, konstruiert der Film eine Erzählstruktur, die verschiedene Interpretationen des Films ermöglicht. Dadurch wird eine Ambiguität erzeugt, die maßgeblich zu den kontroversen Diskussionen beiträgt. Darüber hinaus hat die Art der Berichterstattung selbst maßgeblichen Einfluss auf die Wahrnehmung des Films ausgeübt.
