This research aims to investigate the influence of social media usage intensity, self-esteem, and emotional stability on the academic performance of undergraduate students, seeking to determine how these psychological and behavioral factors correlate with students' GPA and overall academic success.
1.1 Background of Study
Academic performance is one of the most crucial educational outcomes throughout the whole educational journey of a student and it is also a key variable of this study. It is an important educational goal a person achieved in their academic journey. Pursuing of good academic performance satisfies several purposes including a better career and job. Students have spots of failure and achievement in their academic careers and this has to be assessed in order to promote improvement and make use of educational development. In educational institutions, success is measured by academic performance. Good academic performance leads to offer more career choices and job security. Many factors influence the academic performance of students. Some of them that will consider in this study are social media usage intensity, self-esteem, and emotional stability.
These days, social networking sites (SNSs) including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. serve as the main communication and connection tools and these networking sites are referred as social media (Ellison & Boyd, 2007). According to a study, 90% of young adults use social media (Perrin, 2015), while students spend about 8-10 hours browsing through different sites and apps per day (Kirkorian et al., 2008; Park & Lee, 2014). There are enormous advantages of social media in the field of education such as enhancing relationships, improving learning motivation, offering personalized course material, and developing collaborative abilities (Rifkin et al., 2009). But there are also shreds of evidence that for students, social media is like a two-edged sword, it is beneficial in connecting with others, sharing, and retrieving information but on the other hand, its addiction can cause serious and negative consequences on the academic life of students (Azizi et al., 2019; Kolan & Dzandza, 2018).

The study investigates the influence of three specific factors—social media usage intensity, self-esteem, and emotional stability—on the academic performance of undergraduate students at public sector universities.
The work focuses on educational psychology, specifically examining if and how habitual social media consumption, self-worth (self-esteem), and emotional regulation (emotional stability) affect university grades.
