This study aims to examine the impact of management information system adoption, managerial skills, and managerial effectiveness within public secondary schools in the Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State. The core research question explores how the integration of modern information technologies, combined with the administrative competencies of principals, influences the overall educational effectiveness and management quality in these institutions.
1.1 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
The importance of information management in the educational system cannot be over-emphasized. This is because information is lifeline of any educational organization. The extent to which a school is able to process, store and manage data determines the level of administrative effectiveness in such a school. Casual observation by the researcher has revealed that essential school records manually kept sometimes disappeared; others falsified which portrayed non-challant attitude of record officers towards their responsibility. It has also been observed that principals most often do not provide accurate number of students on enrolment during Parent Teacher Association levy account, among others (Omoha, 2022). This has often threatens effective planning and administration of education for the realization of the goal of secondary level of education.
Management and information system is a technology adopted in the educational sector to enhance the effectiveness of the system towards realization of the goal of education. This was informed by a number of reasons like increasing students’ enrollment and the emergence of programmes in education (Durosaro, 2021). Consequently, it became difficult for principals to managed large quantity of data which they must process speedily to provide information for the teaching service commission, ministry of education, teachers and students. In other words, it entails increased responsibilities for school principals which made management of the education sector very difficult that school administrators could not cope with. Coming into being of this technology has played enormous roles in that regards. School managers are expected to have appropriate information that guides their effective decision making regarding recruitment, training and posting or transfer of teachers (Fatu, 2023).
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION: This chapter establishes the foundational context regarding the role of information management in education and outlines the research objectives, questions, and hypotheses focused on the Jos East Local Government Area.
CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW: This chapter reviews existing theoretical frameworks, such as the Technology Adoption Model, and empirical studies concerning the relationship between MIS, managerial skills, and educational effectiveness.
CHAPTER THREE METHODOLOGY: This chapter details the cross-sectional survey research design, population sampling techniques, and the instruments used to collect data from school administrators and teachers.
CHAPTER FOUR DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS: This chapter presents the statistical results of the data collected, including reliability assessments and the testing of the hypothesized relationships using structural equation modeling.
CHAPTER FIVE SUMMARY OF FINDNGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS: This chapter synthesizes the study findings, provides a final conclusion on the mediating role of managerial skills, and suggests practical recommendations for enhancing school administration through MIS.

The research focuses on the impact of implementing Management Information Systems (MIS) on the managerial effectiveness of secondary school principals, specifically within the Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The study centers on three main thematic areas: the adoption of MIS technologies, the development of managerial skills among school administrators, and the resulting level of managerial effectiveness in school operations.
The main objective is to investigate the relationship between MIS adoption and managerial effectiveness, while specifically examining whether managerial skills act as a mediator in this relationship.
The study utilizes a descriptive cross-sectional survey research design, applying quantitative methods and structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze data collected from teachers and principals.
The main body covers the conceptual and theoretical foundations of MIS and managerial effectiveness, a review of empirical literature, detailed methodology, data presentation, and a discussion of findings related to the research hypotheses.
The work is characterized by keywords such as Management Information System, Managerial Effectiveness, Managerial Skills, Secondary School Administration, and Technology Adoption Model.
TAM is used to explain the determinants of technology acceptance among school staff, guiding the understanding of how perceived usefulness and ease of use influence the integration of MIS in educational settings.
The study identifies that managerial skills serve as a crucial mediator, enhancing the positive influence of MIS adoption on the overall administrative effectiveness of school principals.
