This study aims to assess the effectiveness of Computerized Hotel Management Systems (CHMS) in managing hotel personnel and customer relations at Royal Resorts Ibadan, focusing on how these digital solutions influence operational performance and service delivery.
1.1 Introduction
The hospitality industry has experienced rapid technological advancement over the past two decades, leading to the automation of most service and administrative functions. Globally, hotels and other hospitality establishments increasingly rely on computerized systems to enhance operational efficiency, improve service delivery, and maintain competitiveness in an ever-evolving market. Technology has become the backbone of modern hotel management, enabling real-time coordination between departments, streamlined customer interactions, and data-driven decision-making processes.
In the Nigerian context, the integration of technology into hospitality operations has gained remarkable traction, particularly among hotels located in metropolitan areas such as Lagos, Abuja, and Ibadan. The increasing adoption of Computerized Hotel Management Systems (CHMS) reflects a growing awareness of the need to align with global standards of service excellence. These systems are designed to manage various aspects of hotel operations, including reservations, front-desk management, billing, human resource administration, and customer relationship management. Despite this progress, many establishments still face challenges in optimizing the full potential of these technologies due to infrastructural and human resource constraints.
Traditionally, hotel management in Nigeria depended heavily on manual processes, including handwritten registers, physical record-keeping, and in-person communication across departments. These manual systems often led to inefficiencies, human errors, revenue losses, and poor customer experiences. Tasks such as booking, billing, and personnel tracking were time-consuming and prone to duplication or omissions.
CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION: This chapter provides an overview of the role of technology in modern hotel operations and establishes the research problem regarding the adoption and effectiveness of CHMS in Nigerian hotels.
CHAPTER TWO: REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE: This chapter examines existing scholarly work on hotel management systems, their core modules, and the global and local trends in digital transformation within the hospitality sector.
CHAPTER THREE: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: This chapter details the mixed-method research design, sampling techniques, and data collection instruments utilized to investigate CHMS performance at Royal Resorts Ibadan.
CHAPTER FOUR: DATA PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND DISCUSSION: This chapter presents the empirical findings gathered from staff and customer questionnaires, providing an in-depth analysis of the system's effectiveness and the challenges encountered.
CHAPTER FIVE: SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: This chapter synthesizes the research outcomes, draws conclusions on the impact of CHMS, and offers recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of hotel management systems in Nigeria.

The research focuses on assessing the effectiveness of Computerized Hotel Management Systems (CHMS) in improving the administration of personnel and customer services within the Nigerian hospitality industry.
The key themes include personnel management efficiency, customer service improvement, the transition from manual to automated systems, and the infrastructure-related challenges in implementing digital management tools.
The primary goal is to provide evidence-based insights into how CHMS affects operational workflow and customer satisfaction, and to suggest strategies for better adoption and utilization of these systems in Nigeria.
The study utilized a mixed-method case study design, incorporating structured questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and direct observation to collect and triangulate quantitative and qualitative data.
The body covers the literature review on hotel management modules, the research methodology used, an in-depth presentation and analysis of collected data, and the final summary of findings and recommendations.
Relevant keywords include Computerized Hotel Management Systems, Hospitality Management, Operational Efficiency, Customer Satisfaction, and Digital Adoption in Nigeria.
According to the findings, CHMS significantly enhances personnel administration by streamlining staff scheduling, improving payroll accuracy, and facilitating better record-keeping compared to previous manual processes.
The most significant challenges identified by staff include inadequate training, poor internet connectivity, irregular power supply, and occasional resistance to change among employees.
