The primary objective of this study is to investigate the extent to which scientific skills and attitudes are inherently present in the daily practices of market women in Lagos State and how these influence their economic and environmental activities.
2.3 SCIENTIFIC ATTITUDES
Scientific attitudes embrace all scientific processes of gathering information with no subjectivity, skepticism or prejudice for the advancement of science. These processes can only be objectively and confidently carried out by skillful individuals. A skill, in this sense, means a proficiency process of carrying out a task with ease, precision and speed (Busari 1995).
Apart from acquiring scientific skills, scientists should develop certain attitudes in order to use the processes or methods. Opong (1981) explained that it is the possession of the skills and attitudes necessary for the usage of the scientific process and the possession of the knowledge acquired through the process that makes a person a scientist. These attitudes, according to James (1995), include honesty, open-mindedness, patience, curiosity, humility and skepticism.
According to Abdullahi (1982), through science teaching, certain social ethics and values such as honesty, rationality, objectivity and making judgment on the basis of reliable information can be developed in our youths. He also listed open-mindedness, curiosity and an optimistic approach to failure as values that are closely related to scientific training. These attitudes are very important for all citizens. Scientific knowledge is attributed to some facts and principles that are required through the long process of inquiry and investigation.
CHAPTER ONE: This chapter provides the background of the study, identifies the research problem regarding the scientific skills of market women, and outlines the purpose and significance of the research.
CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW: This chapter reviews existing literature on scientific literacy, science process skills, scientific attitudes, the environment, and life coping skills to establish a theoretical framework.
CHAPTER THREE: This chapter details the research methodology, including the survey design, the selection of the study area, population, and the instruments used for data collection.
CHAPTER FOUR DATA ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION OF RESULTS: This chapter presents the data gathered from interviews and observations and analyzes the findings regarding the scientific practices and coping mechanisms of the market women.
CHAPTER FIVE SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION: This final chapter summarizes the research findings, offers conclusions on the scientific nature of the market women's activities, and provides recommendations for policy and education.

The research explores the relevance of scientific skills and attitudes in the daily business practices of market women in Lagos State.
Key themes include scientific literacy, science process skills, life coping mechanisms, and environmental hygiene practices among market traders.
The study aims to determine the extent of scientific skills inherent in market women's practices, how they utilize coping skills, and the impact of their activities on the environment.
The researcher used a survey research design, gathering data from twenty market women across three markets in Lagos State through structured interviews and observational schedules.
The body covers a comprehensive literature review, the description of research design and instruments, detailed data presentation, and analysis of scientific traits in trade activities.
Key terms include Scientific Skills, Scientific Attitudes, Market Women, Coping Skills, and Environmental Management.
The study indicates they use skills such as communication, organization, negotiation, and the use of measuring devices to manage their businesses effectively.
The study concludes that educating market women is crucial for national development and for improving their existing, often unconscious, scientific practices.
