The study is a field-based empirical analysis of children living in two model foster care institutions in South Delhi: SOS Village Bawana and Prayas.
Surprisingly, the study found that most inmates do not suffer from major psychological setbacks or personality problems, despite their difficult backgrounds.
A majority of children do not find their stay highly satisfactory; they often realize they are there because they have no other options, and older children feel this inadequacy more strongly.
The study examines factors like poverty, war, social disruption, and specific caregiver characteristics as primary drivers of child abuse and neglect.
It encompasses physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, as well as neglect, with a specific focus on the prevalence of these issues in the Indian context.
