The primary objective of this study is to assess people's perceptions regarding climate change vulnerabilities in the south-west coastal region of Bangladesh and to analyze how these vulnerabilities affect local livelihood patterns and current adaptive capacities.
1.1 Statement of the Problem
Climate change is considered as one of the most serious threats to the world’s environment with its potential negative aspects on human health, food security, agriculture, fisheries, biodiversity, water, economic activities and other natural resources. The global warming is apprehended to lead a higher atmospheric temperature, high intensity of rainfall, increased natural disasters, more frequent and prolonged draughts and sea level rise along the coastal areas of low lying Bangladesh (NCSA, 2007). Bangladesh is one of the most climate vulnerable countries in the world and will become even more so as a result of climate change. Floods, tropical cyclones, storm surges and droughts are likely to become more frequent and severe in the coming years. These changes will threaten the significant achievements. Bangladesh has made over the last 20 years in increasing incomes and reducing poverty, and will make it more difficult to achieve the MDGs.
The impacts of climate change are worldwide. For Bangladesh they are most critical as large part of the population is chronically exposed and vulnerable to a range of natural hazards. Already, the human suffering and cost to development is massive to this country and its people who are victims of human induced global warming.
Chapter One: Introduction: Provides the problem statement, objectives, and a conceptual framework regarding climate change vulnerabilities in Bangladesh.
Chapter Two: Methodology of the Study: Details the research design, site selection, sampling techniques, and data collection methods used to conduct the field survey.
Chapter Three: Understanding Climate Change: Discusses global and local threats, institutional adaptation strategies, and the conceptual model for managing climate risk.
Chapter Four: Data Analysis: Presents the socio-economic data of respondents, their perception of climate change, vulnerability assessment, and their current adaptation strategies.
Chapter Five: Major Findings, Recommendations and Conclusion: Summarizes the key findings of the study and provides policy recommendations for future climate change adaptation.

The research focuses on the perception of the population in south-west coastal Bangladesh regarding the vulnerabilities caused by climate change and how these influence their daily survival and livelihoods.
The study examines the relationship between climate-induced natural disasters (cyclones, salinity, river erosion) and their impacts on health, food security, water, and property, alongside existing community adaptation mechanisms.
The primary goal is to assess climate-induced vulnerabilities and examine the adaptive capacity of the local population to better understand how policy makers can intervene.
The study utilized an observational survey research design, collecting primary data from 120 respondents through face-to-face interviews using an interview schedule in the study area.
The main body covers a detailed analysis of demographic characteristics, levels of climate change knowledge among residents, rankings of climatic problems based on vulnerability, and detailed tables on adaptation strategies.
The work is characterized by terms such as climate change, vulnerability, coastal Bangladesh, adaptation, salinity intrusion, and disaster management.
Salinity intrusion is identified as a critical factor that decreases soil fertility, causes crop failure, and contributes to a lack of safe drinking water and the spread of water-borne diseases.
NGOs play a significant role by providing institutional adaptation strategies, awareness training, and emergency aid, such as helping with disaster-resilient farming techniques like gher farming.
