Standort ist nicht gleich Standort. Neben der Immobilienbranche gilt auch in der Unternehmensansiedlung immer mehr das Mantra ‚Lage, Lage, Lage‘. Die Themen Standort, Standortsuche und Standortwahl sind von ausgesprochen großer Bedeutung für Unternehmen. Dies gilt nicht nur für die Automobilindustrie, sondern nahezu branchenübergreifend.
Standortentscheidungen haben zumeist einen langfristigen, kostenintensiven und ähnlich der Rechtsformenwahl konstituierenden Charakter für ein Unternehmen; sie sind durchweg nur sehr schwer und nur unter einem hohen Ressourcenaufwand revidierbar, wodurch sie somit die Rahmenbedingungen für viele Folgeentscheidungen setzen. Aufgrund der schwierigen Revidierbarkeit der Standortentscheidung und der fortschreitenden Globalisierung mit augenscheinlich nahezu grenzenlosen Auswahlmöglichkeiten bezüglich des Wirtschaftsstandortes, ist es für Unternehmen üblich, jeden in Frage kommenden Wirtschaftsstandort einer äußerst detaillierten Prüfung zu unterziehen. Ausgangspunkt ist somit die zunehmend wachsende Internationalisierung der Wirtschaft.
Seit Tesla Inc. im November 2016 verkündete, einen Standort in Europa für die Errichtung einer Gigafactory nach US-amerikanischen Vorbild zu suchen, entstand ein regelrechter Bewerberansturm und unzählige Wirtschaftsstandorte in ganz Europa haben ihre positiven Gegebenheiten und Vorzüge präsentiert. Der Standortsuchprozess, in dem die Öffentlichkeit zu einem sehr frühen Stadium involviert wurde, war eröffnet.
Vorliegende Arbeit hat das Ziel, zum einen die Transition der komplexen Prozesse der internationalen Standortsuche sowie seiner Determinanten aufzuzeigen und zum anderen den sich daraus ergebenden Wettbewerb der Wirtschaftsstandorte im Standortsuchprozess zu beleuchten. Der Wettbewerb ist insbesondere Resultat fortschreitender unternehmerischer Internationalisierungsbestrebungen und Globalisierungstendenzen. Im Zuge der vorliegenden Arbeit werden mit Hilfe traditioneller und aktueller Standorttheorien in Verbindung mit den Standortfaktoren wesentliche Entscheidungskriterien eines international agierenden Unternehmens eruiert.
