Chapter One introduces the study's background, highlighting the challenges faced by academic libraries in the current information society and the importance of understanding researcher's information needs. It outlines the study's objectives, research questions, significance, scope, and operational definition of terms.
Chapter Two delves into the literature review, examining the types of information sources available to researchers, previous analyses of information sources, and the different formats in which information sources are presented.
Chapter Three describes the research methodology, including the research design, target population, sampling technique, data collection methods, and data analysis procedures.
Chapter Four presents the findings of the study, including data presentation, a summary of the major findings, and a discussion of the results.
This research focuses on information sources, citation analysis, academic libraries, doctoral research, Geography, MAUTECH, Yola, information literacy, e-resources, open access, and collection development.
The study revealed that journals are the major information sources cited, with secondary sources being the most frequent type of information cited.
Despite the digital age, printed sources remained the major format of information cited by doctoral students in the Geography department between 2008 and 2017.
The study found that the percentage of recent sources cited compared to the total percentage is not appreciable, suggesting a need for better access to current literature.
Challenges include the increasing price of books, cuts in funding, and the complexity of user needs across different information media.
The study recommends establishing an ICT laboratory for e-resource access, making information literacy part of the curriculum, and collaborating on the acquisition of relevant journals.
