This assignment examines the competitive landscape of the consumer electronics industry in China by analyzing macroeconomic and microeconomic factors, industry strategy, and market dynamics. The primary objective is to evaluate how specific environment conditions impact competitors and to identify effective business strategies for local players, specifically focusing on the consumer electronics market.
Pestel analysis:
Political: Firstly, political stability. China already finished the smoothly replacement to the fourth-generation leadership and now is going to enhance the cooperation relationship with Russia (Country Report, 2005) to spread its political influence. On the other hand, the relative intense relationship with US and the continuous TAIWAN problem might impact the foundation of political stability.
Secondly, if the implement of the new five-year plan is successful, the power of rural and second-tie buyers, which exceed more than 70% of whole population of China, is unbelievable. TCL has already dominated many second- and third-tier cities (Media Asia, 2005).
Thirdly, based on World Tax 2006, new foreign trade regulations released by Chinese tax authorities issues some more benefits for foreign investors then previous years. Foreign investors now can choose either 100% owned or joint-venture with local business. Some restricts have been canceled or revised such as flexible investment policy, no longer require separate R&D legal entity, minimum registered capital for foreign-invested firms reduces from $20 million to $10 million and zero custom tax for some components and products.
