This study aims to investigate and identify the various internal and external factors that influence the scholastic performance of third-year accountancy students at UM Digos College. By utilizing a qualitative research design, the study explores how specific life and environmental variables impact the academic journey of these students.
Social Networking Sites Addiction
Lack of Focus due to Social Media Addiction is one of the negative impacts to 3rd year accountancy students in their scholastic performance. It is shown in the data gathered that students cannot focus on their studies because of the social networking sites, teenagers; especially the college students are having fun using social media particularly in Facebook that hinders them from studying. Most of the students spend too much time on Facebook, Wattpad, Youtube and other social media sites that it begins to interfere with their studies and it was in the study of Egedegbe, (2014), said that students being addicted to social networking media sites found out that it is difficult for them to study which leads them to become very poor academically.
One of the participants said that social media is one of the temptations in her studies.
“Bilang usa ka estudyante daghan kaayog mga temtasyon na makadistorbo sa akong pagstudy usa na ang mga social media ilabi na ang Facebook, Wattpad, Youtube ug uban pa. Bisan unsaon naku ug basa sa mga libro sa accounting kay ma divert jud akong attention sa paggamit ug cellphone hantod dili na jud makastudy. [As a student, there are lots of temptations that disturbed in my studies and one of it is the social media more specifically the Facebook, Wattpad, and Youtube. Even how I tried to keep reading on my accounting books, my attention still diverts to my phone and I end up not able to study my lessons].”

The research is dedicated to identifying and analyzing the various factors that influence the academic performance of third-year accountancy students at UM Digos College.
The study centers on three major themes: Social Networking Sites Addiction, Financial Instability, and various Environmental Factors affecting the students.
The study primarily seeks to answer: "What are the factors that affect your scholastic performance in studying Accounting?"
The researchers utilized a qualitative research design, conducting Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and applying Thematic Analysis to process participant responses.
The main body examines the interplay between personal habits like social media use, external pressures like financial burdens, and environmental conditions such as school facilities and family expectations.
Key terms include Scholastic Performance, Accountancy Students, Social Networking Sites Addiction, Financial Instability, and Environmental Factors.
The study finds that financial instability forces students to seek employment, which often leads to time-management difficulties, increased stress, and an inability to focus on academic requirements.
The research highlights that school facilities, such as the library, and factors like noise levels significantly affect a student's ability to concentrate and study effectively.
The study reveals that family expectations can be a double-edged sword, serving as motivation for some, while creating undue pressure and emotional stress for others.
