Schlussgedanke
Wir kennen Ozon als eines der wichtigsten Gase in unserer Stratosphäre. Dort, in 20 bis 30 km Höhe, fungiert es durch sein ausgeprägtes Absorptionsvermögen energiereicher UV-Strahlung als ökologisches Schutzschild und ist damit essentiell für den Erhalt des biologischen Gleichgewichts in der Biosphäre verantwortlich.
In unphysiologisch hohen Konzentrationen wirkt Ozon als Reizgas für die oberen Lungenwege, was besonders in den Sommermonaten bei innerstädtischem Smog bedeutsam wird. Denn hier kann sich unter Einfluss von UV-Licht auf bestimmte Smogbestandteile, wie Stickoxide, Ozon aus Sauerstoff bilden, da chemisch betrachtet, Ozon ein dreiwertiger Sauerstoff ist.
Weniger bekannt ist die Tatsache, dass Ozon neben der Nutzung im biologischen und hygienischen Bereich auch breite Anwendungsmöglichkeiten im medizinischen Bereich besitzt und insbesondere in den naturheilkundlichen Heilmethoden zum festen Bestandteil des therapeutischen Spektrums geworden ist. Mit der Entdeckung des Ozons begann ein langer Weg des Fortschritts, der damit verbundenen Probleme und Vorurteile, der Risiken und Anwendungsgebiete. Schönbein war es, der 1840 ein Gas beschrieb und es aufgrund seines starken Geruchs Ozon (griechisch: ozein bedeutet riechend) nannte. Dieses Ozon ließ sich erstmals 1857 mittels der Siemens’schen Röhre industriell herstellen und gegen Ende der 50er Jahre des 19. Jahrhunderts konnte im Rahmen der technischen Weiterentwicklung eine exakt definierte Menge Ozon aus Sauerstoff generiert werden.1
Durch diese technische Errungenschaft wurde es erst möglich, verschiedene Applikationsmodi zu gebrauchen und weiter zu entwickeln. Heute ist die Anwendung im Rahmen der sogenannten Ozontherapie mit differenzierten Dosen problemlos möglich und findet mehr und mehr Akzeptanz bei Patienten, aber auch bei Ärzten.
In vielerlei Hinsicht gibt es verschiedene Gründe dafür, warum sich die Ozontherapie insbesondere im Rahmen der naturheilkundlichen Therapiemethoden so konsequent durchsetzen konnte. Dies liegt zum einen daran, dass sich die Ozontherapie vorteilhaft in vielfältige andere Therapiekonzepte integrieren lässt, zum anderen daran, dass bei den Menschen in den letzten Jahren ein Umdenken bezüglich ihrer Gesundheit zu beobachten ist.
Patienten wünschen sich zunehmend weitsichtigere und tiefgreifendere Behandlungsformen, als sie oftmals in der allopathischen bzw. Schulmedizin möglich sind. Die Ozontherapie bessert nicht nur punktuell die vorhandenen Krankheitssymptome, sondern hat auch eine prophylaktische Wirkung. Ein weiteres Ziel vieler Anwender ist es auch, dem alternden Menschen eine bessere Lebensqualität im gesundheitlichen Sinne zu geben; denn die Lebenserwartung ist deutlich angestiegen und ebenfalls der Anspruch an die Lebensqualität. Nicht zuletzt, da häufig die Frühberentung in Anspruch genommen wird und dementsprechend der Wunsch nach sinnvoller, vitaler Nutzung der freien Zeit besteht. Ebenso ist es für die Arbeitstätigen wichtig, im Beruf nicht längerfristig durch Krankheit auszufallen.
Leider gehört die Ozontherapie seit ihren Anfängen zu den umstrittensten alternativen Heilmethoden. Deshalb soll diese Ausarbeitung helfen, eventuelle Vorurteile abzubauen und eine sachliche Darstellung zu geben. Denn obwohl die Ozontherapie im Bereich der Naturheilkunde schon lange als wirkungsvolle Therapiemaßnahme bekannt ist, gibt es immer noch viele Skeptiker oder sogar Gegner, welche diese Behandlungsmethode massiv kritisieren.
Die Argumente, die von diesen vorgetragen werden, sind im Wesentlichen:
- Ozon ist toxisch und somit für das Einbringen in den menschlichen Körper nicht geeignet.
- Der wissenschaftliche Wirkungsnachweis für die Ozontherapie ist bisher nicht erbracht.
- Die Ozontherapie ist unwirksam bzw. sehr risikoreich.
- Die Ozontherapie ist eine Pseudomedizin.
Leider zeigt sich immer wieder, dass auch die Medien im Allgemeinen nur sehr oberflächlich oder sogar verzerrt über dieses Thema berichten. Daher ist bis heute der allgemeine Informationsstand hinsichtlich dieser Behandlungsmethode und ihrer Möglichkeiten in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung eher gering. Um dieser Wahrnehmungsverzerrung zu begegnen, befasse ich mich in der vorliegenden Arbeit damit, die vielfältigen positiven Erfahrungen mit dieser Methode darzulegen.
Aus diesem Grunde betrachte ich zuerst die chemische und geschichtliche Seite des Ozons, um daraus die heutigen Nutzungsmöglichkeiten mit ihren verschiedenen Differenzen zu betrachten. Ich zeige die verschiedenen Herstellungs- und Applikationsmöglichkeiten auf und setze mich insbesondere mit der medizinischen Anwendung von Ozon beim Menschen, seiner Wirkung im menschlichen Körper und dem Einfluss der angewandten Ozontherapie auf verschiedene Krankheitsbilder auseinander. Um einen umfassenderen Blick auf das Thema zu erhalten, habe ich ein Interview mit Herrn Hübner geführt, dem ersten Begründer des HUMARES-Unit und heutigen Weltexporteur der qualitativ hochwertigen HUMARES Ozongeräte, sowie ein weiteres mit dem erfahrenen türkischen Arzt Dr. Çakir, welcher Ozon in seinen Kliniken selbst anwendet und mir verschiedene Aspekte der medizinischen Ozonanwendung erklärte.
Als Abschluss werde ich zusammenfassend die Kernaussagen meiner Arbeit formulieren, um daraus zu einer persönlichen Schlussfolgerung zu gelangen.

Ozon ist die energiereiche, allotrope Form des Sauerstoffs mit der chemischen Formel O3. Es ist eines der stärksten Oxidantien, die wir kennen. Ozon entsteht aus Sauerstoff durch Ultraviolettbestrahlung oder elektrische Entladung und erfüllt in der Natur eine ökologische Schutzfunktion in der Erdatmosphäre. In unphysiologischen Konzentrationen - wenn die MAK-Werte2 überschritten werden - ist Ozon ein respiratorisches Reizgas - was zunehmend an Bedeutung gewinnt. Das hellblaue Ozongas hat eine molare Masse von 48, einen Bindungswinkel von 127° +/-3° und weist in dieser Form einen großen Energieüberschuss von 143 kJ/mol auf. Es gehört damit nach Fluor zu den reaktionsfreudigsten Oxidationsmitteln, die man kennt. Ozon hat eine Halbwertzeit von ca. 45 Minuten (bei Raumtemperatur in einer Glasspritze), mit steigender Temperatur beschleunigt sich die Autokatalyse des Ozons linear. Für den medizinischen Gebrauch wird immer ein Gemisch aus Ozon/Sauerstoff erzeugt,2 Der MAK-Wert (Maximale Arbeitsplatz-Konzentration) beträgt für eine Arbeitszeit von 8 Stunden täglich und bis zu 42 Stunden wöchentlich 0,2 mg/m 3= 0,15 ppm (Gew.), bei kürzerer Einwirkungszeit ist eine entsprechend höhere Ozon-Konzentration zulässig. - vgl. wobei der Ozonanteil zwischen 0,05 und fünf Prozent liegen kann. Eingeatmet, stellt Ozon ein potentes Reizgas dar, welches das Lungen- und Bronchialepithel schädigen kann. Bei Ozonvergiftung kann ein Bronchospasmus (zeitweise auftretender spastischer Reflex der Bronchien) eintreten, der einem Status asthmaticus ähnelt. In organischen Molekülen mit Doppel- oder Mehrfachbindungen entstehen unter Ozoneinwirkung verschiedenste kurzlebige Übergangsverbindungen, die in vielfältiger Weise weiter reagieren. Das elektrophile Ozonmolekül ist aufgrund seiner Molekularstruktur als Dipol aufzufassen und neigt am ehesten zu ionischen Reaktionen.3
Der Chemiker Martin von Marum nahm 1785 in der Nähe von Elektrisiermaschinen beim Durchschlagen elektrischer Funken einen eigenartigen schwefelartigen Geruch wahr, den er der „elektrischen Materie“ zuschrieb. 1839 stellte Professor Schönbein fest, dass durch elektrische Entladung in der Atmosphäre der Luftsauerstoff in ein Gas umgewandelt wird. Er nannte dieses Gas „Ozon“, nach dem griech. Namen ozein - „riechen“. Achtzehn Jahre später stellte Werner von Siemens ein Gerät her, mit dessen Hilfe Ozon erzeugt werden konnte. Die nach ihm benannte Röhre arbeitet nach dem Prinzip der stillen elektrischen Entladung. Zur Zeit des ersten Weltkrieges berichtete ein Arzt aus Berlin Grunewald, dass trotz einfachster technologischer Apparaturen erstaunlich große Erfolge bei der Ozontherapie von Fisteln, Wunden und Phlegmonen bei verwundeten Soldaten erbracht wurden. Sein Name war Albert Wolff und diese Feststellung machte er 1916/17. Der Begriff der Blutwäsche wurde durch Prof. Casagrande, Prof. Locarno, Prof. Wehrli und Prof. Padua 1925 geprägt, welche erste Behandlungen mit Patientenblut durchführten, bei dem das Blut mit UV-Strahlen bestrahlt wurde. Ein weiterer Fortschritt in der Geschichte des Ozons war die Einführung in die Zahnheilkunde. 1933 führte der Zahnarzt Fisch das Ozon für die Behandlung infizierter Wundhöhlen, Parodontose und Entzündungen ein und hatte gute Erfolge dabei. Durch groß angelegte Arbeiten schaffte Prof. Payr 1935 die klinischen Grundlagen für die Nutzung des Ozons in der Schulmedizin. Drei Jahre später berichtete die chirurgische Akademie in Paris, Aubourg über große Erfolge mit der Ozontherapie, insbesondere bei der Behandlung mittels Ozoninsufflation in Blase, Nasennebenhöhlen, Vagina, Uterus und Fisteln. Professor Wehrli konstruierte 1946 ein Gerät zur Hämatogenen Oxidationstherapie (HOT). Dabei wurde das Blut des Patienten aus einer Vene entnommen, mit medizinischem Sauerstoff angereichert, UV-bestrahlt und wieder intravenös injiziert. In den 50er Jahren des 19. Jahrhunderts konnte der Physiker J. Hänsler durch elektrische Entladung exakt definierte Mengen Ozon aus Sauerstoff herstellen.4
- Aufgrund der langen Geschichte der Ozonanwendung ist diese zwar wissenschaftlich untersucht, allerdings könnte man hinsichtlich der verschiedenen, bei dieser Therapieform stattfindenden physiologischen Prozesse sicherlich noch tiefer forschen. Trotz ihrer erfolgreichen Historie ist die Ozontherapie bisher nur in der Alternativen Heilkunde anerkannt, obwohl sie sehr integrationsfähig in andere Therapieformen ist.
Bisher sind drei Arten der Ozonherstellung bekannt, die je nach Anwendungszweck gebraucht werden.
1. Im medizinischen Bereich arbeitet man vor allem mit dem Prinzip der stillen elektrischen Entladung, welches im 19. Jahrhundert von Werner von Siemens entdeckt wurde. Diese Herstellungsart ist nicht nur besonders wirtschaftlich, sondern erlaubt auch eine variable Ozonkonzentration bei Herstellung kleinerer Mengen, wie sie z. B. bei der Ozontherapie benötigt werden. Daher arbeiten heute alle entsprechenden Leistungsgeneratoren mit diesem Herstellungsverfahren.5
Eine systembedingte Schwäche dieses Verfahrens ist die unzureichende Langzeitstabilität der Ozonkonzentration, die es notwendig macht, diese fortlaufend zu messen. Der entscheidende Durchbruch auf diesem Gebiet wurde durch die Firma HUMARES in Weingarten mit der weltweit erstmaligen Einführung der integrierten photometrischen Messmethode in ihren HUMAZON-Unit Ozongeräten erzielt.6
2. Eine weitere Möglichkeit ist die chemische Herstellung. Diese Variante der Ozonproduktion wird in der letzten Zeit besonders für technische Anwendungen wieder zunehmend verwendet.
3. Die schließlich letzte und auch einfachste Herstellungsmethode ist die Verwendung von UV-Röhren. Bei diesem Verfahren entsteht der typische und vielen bekannte Höhensonnengeruch. Verwendung findet dieses Prinzip vor allem in Klimaanlagen, Luftschächten, Wartezimmern und medizinischen Räumen.7
Unter anderem wird Ozon auch in diversen anderen Bereichen verwendet. So zum Beispiel in der Wasseraufbereitung: Hier wird vor allem der bakterizide Effekt genutzt, um z. B. Schwimmbäder sauber zu halten. Aber auch in der Pharmazie findet es weite Anerkennung. Dort wird es verwendet, um Pharmazeutika am weiteren Oxidationsprozess zu hindern und somit den endgültigen Zustand zu fixieren. Einen weiteren Anwendungsfaktor gibt es bei Gewächshäusern. Hier wird Ozon verwendet, um die UV-Einstrahlung des Sonnenlichts kontinuierlich zu regeln.8
- Es gibt noch unzählige weitere Beispiele, wie zum Beispiel die Herstellung von Brennstoffen, bei der Fleischkonservierung oder als Bleich- und Entkeimungsmittel. Die jedoch wichtigste Verwendung von Ozon ist die in der Medizin. Tabelle 1 auf Seite 13-15 enthält die indikationsbezogenen Applikationsformen sowie die jeweils zugrundeliegende Wirkung des Ozons.
Es gibt drei Möglichkeiten, wie Ozon gemessen werden kann:
a) Die kalorimetrische Messmethode
Die kalorimetrische Messmethode beruht auf der beim Zerfall des Ozons abgegebenen Wärmeenergie. Allerdings benötigt man hierfür wenigstens 100 l Ozon. Ein weiterer Nachteil ergibt sich auch aus den schwankenden Zeitkonstanten. Deshalb findet sie heute kaum noch Verwendung.
b) Die chemische Messmethode (Jodometrie)
Auch hier werden größere Mengen Ozongemisches gebraucht (mindestens 100 l), um eine sichere Bestimmung der Konzentration zu gewährleisten.
- Die obig aufgeführten Messmethoden haben den gravierenden Nachteil der diskontinuierlichen Konzentrationsbestimmung und können zeitlich bedingte Spitzenkonzentrationen nicht erfassen. 9
c) Die photometrische Messmethode (UV-Photometrie)
Die photometrische Messmethode, auch Photometrie genannt, stammt von dem baden-württembergischen Diplom-Ingenieur Hübner, der dieses Verfahren entwickelte und patentieren ließ. Hierbei wird mittels Lichtdetektoren die Ozonkonzentration sehr zuverlässig gemessen, was darauf beruht, dass im UV-Bereich eine starke Absorption des Ozons erfolgt. Zu beachten ist, dass der Küvettenraum und die Zeitkonstante eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Messung spielen, da diese Messmethode eine Kurzzeitmessung ist und sehr genau erfolgen muss und beide Faktoren bei der Verrechnung und Anzeige eine große Rolle spielen. Die Genauigkeit hängt vordergründig von der Zeitkonstante ab, das heißt, wenn der Messabstand bis zu 20 Sekunden beträgt, entsteht ein Konzentrationsfehler von 300 bis 400 %. Heutzutage liegt der Konzentrationsfehler bei maximal 5 %.10
Es ist interessant zu sehen, dass die Erzeugung von Ozon in sich nur einen geringen Kostenaufwand darstellt, da der medizinische Sauerstoff sehr leicht herzustellen ist. Paradox ist aber, dass eine Ozontherapie im Verhältnis zu der Herstellung preisaufwändig ist. Dies liegt einerseits daran, dass die Ozongeräte selbst sehr teuer sind (ca. 8000 bis 12 000 Euro) und andererseits die für die Therapie verwendeten hochwertigen Einwegbestecke und Materialien im Einkauf relativ kostspielig sind. Trotzdem amortisiert sich der Kauf eines Ozongerätes nach ungefähr 200 Behandlungen.
In der folgenden Tabelle werden die unterschiedlichen Applikationsmöglichkeiten des Ozons vorgestellt.

- Wie in der vorangegangenen zweiteiligen Tabelle zu sehen ist, gibt es für die medizinische Anwendung von Ozon viele Indikationsmöglichkeiten und auch viele kombinierbare Therapien. Allerdings werden diese Möglichkeiten in der Regel leider nicht ausgeschöpft, da viele schulmedizinisch arbeitende Ärzte wenig Kontakt mit Naturmedizinern haben und - wohl nicht zuletzt aus diesem Grunde - auch der in der Naturheilkunde vorhandene, aus Studien und Erfahrung resultierende Wissensschatz bisher wenig Eingang in die Schulmedizin gefunden hat.

Ozon besitzt nicht nur eine schützende Wirkung in der Natur, sondern auch im menschlichen Körper. Nach ausführlichen Studien von weltweit international führenden Universitäten ist belegt, dass Ozon nachweislich allgemein viruzid, bakterizid und fungizid wirkt. Weiterhin ist bekannt, dass medizinisch angewendetes Ozon entzündungshemmende und durchblutungsfördernde Eigenschaften besitzt, sowie immunabwehrsteigernd bei niedrigen und immunsystemhemmend bei hohen Dosierungen wirkt.11
Im lebenden Organismus konnten die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Ozon und den Bestandteilen des Blutes zwar bisher nur lückenhaft erforscht werden. Dennoch ist bekannt, dass Ozon mit den ungesättigten Fettsäuren der Phospholipidschicht von Zellmembranen reagiert. Vor allem bei parenteraler Anwendung erfolgt die Reaktion hierbei insbesondere mit den Zellmembranen der Erythrozyten.12 Wenn das Ozon mit dem in der sterilen klinischen Vakuumflasche befindlichen Blut vermengt wird, werden die ebenfalls darin vorhandenen Ozonmoleküle von den ungesättigten Fettsäuren angezogen. Die Ozonmoleküle greifen nun, chemisch gesehen, die Phospholipidschicht der Erythrozyten an. In der Folge kommt es zu einer teilweisen Spaltung der Phospholipidketten, was zu einer Instabilität der Zelle führt. Die Bruchstücke der gespaltenen Lipidketten erreichen als kurzlebige Peroxide durch die Kernporen das Zytoplasma der Erythrozyten. Da die Peroxide ein Selbstgift für die Zelle darstellen, werden diese zunächst gepuffert und schließlich abgebaut. Um den Abbau-Prozess anzuregen, wird ein oxidativer Stress ausgelöst.
