Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Bedeutung von Daten und deren Nutzung in der Medizin. Es werden aktuelle Anwendungsbeispiele und insbesondere die Gestaltung der Datenspende behandelt. In Zeiten von Big Data und Künstlicher Intelligenz stellt sich die Frage, ob die nächsten herausragenden Erfindungen und Anwendungen im Gesundheitsbereich diese technologischen Hilfsmittel nutzen sollten. Können intelligent genutzte Daten Menschenleben tatsächlich verlängern, Diagnosen genauer ausfallen lassen und Ärzte in der Behandlung und Volkswirtschaften finanziell entlasten? Ist es sinnvoll, mit KI-basierten Anwendungen Menschen medizinisch zu versorgen? Wie sehen in diesem Zusammenhang aktuelle und neue Gesundheitsanwendungen aus?
Mediziner müssen diagnostizieren, lindernde Therapien verschreiben und Leben verlängern. Der Arzt steht dabei in einem Spannungsfeld aus seinem Gewissen, aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen und Zeitdruck in der Behandlung von Patienten. Er definiert, wer gesund und wer krank ist und trägt somit die Verantwortung für das Wohlergehen jedes Einzelnen. Jede Entscheidung, die er trifft, muss nach bestem Wissen und Gewissen erfolgen.
Studien in den USA und Europa kommen zu dem Ergebnis, dass viele Patienten fehlerhafte Diagnosen erhalten oder unnötigerweise stationär im Krankenhaus aufgenommen werden, was offensichtlich nicht dem Anspruch, nach bestem Wissen zu handeln, gerecht wird. Dabei mangelt es auf den ersten Blick nicht an Wissen oder Daten, sondern eher an der Verarbeitung und Nutzung dieser Informationen. Gleichzeitig altert unsere Gesellschaft immer schneller, wodurch die Anforderungen an und die Kosten für unser Gesundheitssystem weiter steigen werden. Künstliche Intelligenzen sollen diese Probleme lösen beziehungsweise wirkungsvoll Patienten, Ärzte und das Gesundheitssystem aus volkswirtschaftlicher Sicht entlasten.
Bei Betrachtung der Rolle von KI im Gesundheitswesen geht es nicht um das Ersetzen von menschlichen Arbeitskräften, sondern vielmehr um ein Hilfsmittel, welches unterstützt und sowohl auf Patienten, Ärzte als auch Volkswirtschaften positive Effekte hat. Medizinisches Personal ist und bleibt unerlässlich für die Sicherstellung der gesundheitlichen Versorgung. Doch bis heute brachten Entwicklungen in der Medizin beeindruckende Verbesserungen für Ärzte und Patienten hervor.
