The study explores the experiences, motivations, and challenges faced by digital nomads in Dahab, analyzing their impact on the local economy and community.
1 INTRODUCTION: This introductory chapter sets the stage for the research by establishing the context of the increasing prevalence of digital nomadism globally and highlighting the gap in existing literature regarding the phenomenon in the Middle East, specifically in Egypt. It introduces the research objectives and questions that guide the investigation, outlining the structure and scope of the thesis.
2 THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK: This chapter provides the theoretical underpinnings of the study, exploring the concept of the knowledge society and its relationship to the emergence of digital nomadism. It examines existing definitions and characterizations of digital nomadism, delving into its ideology and comparing it to similar phenomena. The chapter also addresses the physical aspects of digital nomadism, focusing on the importance of innovation hubs and positioning Egypt, and Dahab in particular, as a potential location for digital nomads.
3 METHODOLOGY: This chapter details the research methodology employed in the study, justifying the choice of an exploratory approach and outlining the specific methods used for data collection. It explains the use of online questionnaires, interviews, and netnography, detailing the process of data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
4 EMPIRICAL DATA & RESEARCH FINDINGS: This chapter presents the empirical findings of the research, analyzing the data collected through the various methods described in Chapter 3. It discusses the digital nomad journey in practice, focusing on the experiences of digital nomads in Dahab, Egypt, and examining the costs of living, visa acquisition, and professional development aspects within this context.

This master's thesis investigates the digital nomad lifestyle in Dahab, Egypt, focusing on its emergence within the context of the evolving knowledge society and its impact on the local economy and community. It explores the experiences, motivations, and challenges faced by digital nomads in this specific location.
The research explores the rise of digital nomadism within the knowledge society, the characteristics and motivations of digital nomads in Dahab, their economic and community impact, Dahab's potential as an innovation hub for digital nomads, and the associated challenges and opportunities.
The thesis is structured into four chapters: 1. Introduction (background, objectives, research questions, outline); 2. Theoretical Framework (knowledge society, digital nomadism, innovation hubs); 3. Methodology (research approach, data collection methods – online questionnaires, interviews, netnography, data analysis); and 4. Empirical Data & Research Findings (digital nomad journey, Dahab-specific experiences, costs, visas, professional development).
The research employed a mixed-methods approach including online questionnaires, interviews, and netnography to gather data on the digital nomad experience in Dahab.
The empirical findings analyze the digital nomad journey in Dahab, specifically examining aspects such as the costs of living, visa acquisition processes, and opportunities for professional development within that context. The study focuses on the experiences of digital nomads in Dahab, Egypt.
Dahab is chosen as a case study to examine digital nomadism in a less-studied location, bridging a gap in existing literature on this phenomenon in the Middle East. Its potential as an innovation hub for digital nomads is also investigated.
The thesis explores the connection between the rise of the knowledge society, with its emphasis on digital technologies and flexible work arrangements, and the emergence of digital nomadism as a lifestyle choice.
The research identifies both the challenges (e.g., visa processes, costs of living) and opportunities (e.g., professional development, cost of living) associated with being a digital nomad in Dahab.
