This study aims to examine power imbalances in intimate heterosexual relationships within four communities in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area. It investigates the perception of decision-making within these relationships, the societal acceptance of these power dynamics, and the influence of socio-economic factors.
Chapter One: Introduction: This chapter introduces the study's focus on power imbalances in intimate relationships, highlighting the problematic assumption that such imbalances are natural and unchangeable. It emphasizes the context-specific nature of these imbalances within African societies, influenced by culture, religion, traditions, and laws. The study specifically investigates perceptions of decision-making, social acceptability of power imbalances, and the relevance of socio-economic circumstances in shaping these dynamics within the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area. The introduction sets the stage for a comprehensive examination of gender inequality within intimate partnerships.
Chapter Two: Literature Review: This chapter would delve into existing research and theoretical frameworks relevant to understanding power imbalances in intimate relationships. It would likely explore various perspectives on gender roles, masculinity, and femininity within African contexts and how these concepts relate to decision-making power within partnerships. The literature review likely synthesizes various studies investigating the influence of culture, religion, traditional practices, and socio-economic factors on power dynamics in intimate relationships. The chapter’s purpose is to establish a foundation for the research and guide the study's methodology.
Chapter Three: Methodology: This chapter would detail the research design and methods employed in the study. It would describe the target population (27,355), the sampling technique used (Taro Yamame), and the resulting sample size (394). The chapter would also explain the survey instrument, a 22-item Likert scale questionnaire, and the data analysis methods used, including the calculation of simple percentages to analyze demographic characteristics. The methodological rigor of this section would establish the reliability and validity of the findings.
Chapter Five: Summary of Findings, Conclusion and Recommendations: (Note: The instructions state to *exclude* the summary of the conclusion and recommendations. Therefore, no summary will be provided for this chapter.)
